Three-way trade: your take?

Bane of My Existence: Memphis wins, getting the shooter they wanted and not having to take on another centre.

Super Mario Bothers: Portland wins, trading a guy with no role (and who annoyed fans) for an expiring C who played well there before.

19%
Flex Offence: Boston wins, continuing to dump unwanted salary more more flexibility (and pick up future 2nds).

Kant believe it!: everyone wins. Memphis got their guy, Portland gained value painlessly, and Boston saves cash and some opportunities.

Yeah, I acknowledge he's a guy with a whole name who actually exists; I was just hoping for like a scouting report or something without having to make the effort to fire up google, if you're feeling generous.

a big who is so useful that the Celtics want to salary dump him. He's essentially bad salary.

Oh. I'm sure he's terrible.I was just wondering what kind of terrible. At this point, terrible big is probably the least useful kind from our POV.

You know, I can't even say he was terrible, I mean the guy probably got on the court for 100 min all year. He just looked lost. I just don't understand what Ainge saw in him to give him 2 years and 2.5mill

You need to wait at least a week till everyone's forgotten that quote, and then pivot to calling him a star-in-the-making. You can't teach height, or being French (?)

I wonder if there is a potential S&T component to this deal. If it was a straight pick swap it would have been done on draft night. If it also included a Kanter dump it would have to be done by I believe 5pm tonight (his 19-20 salary barely fits into a TPE but his 20-21 would not). But if it was a Kanter dump I would think they'd have done the deal shortly after he opted in. So I'm wondering if there is a S&T component and that is why they are still waiting. Question then is who is involved in the S&T?

Hayward could potentially be involved going to Memphis. Maybe JV+Brooks?

Melton could be going to Boston. Melton for Kanter+ may work depending on what Melton signs for, but that would hard cap Boston and I don't know if that is something they are willing to do.

2 days left on the Conley TPE, could just use that instead if they are still negotiating.

Good to know. For some reason I thought we had used a chunk of that TPE to the point where the Wright TPE was our biggest.

Who knows? Might be Kanter and/or some other player in a 3 way trade into Memphis TPE.

As of right now, Boston has 14 players under contract and a cap number of $111,186,856. That currently has them at $21,440,144 to spend before the luxury tax.

If Hayward walks to NY or ATL, BOS likely wants to keep Kanter's deal on the books as a trade matching piece since they'll have plenty of room under the tax to aggregate deals and take back additional salary, even with using the full MLE and bi-annual exception.

If Hayward is re-signed to a new long term deal, or S&T somewhere where Boston takes back salary, then they likely want to dump Kanter to stay under the tax. MEM has a TPE that fits him if the deal is executed before Sunday when the league year starts.

So my guess is that they're waiting to see what happens with FA discussion these next couple days before they settle on a plan. It was reported as MEM sending 2 2nds for the #30 pick but could be amended to them getting #30 for taking on the salary.

Kanter to Portland, SuperMario/Bane to Memphis.

Kanter to POR probably means they're not retaining Whiteside, no?

As of now the Celtics are at $106,181,506 in salary with 13 players under contract. That puts them at $26,445,494 under the luxury tax line to fill those two spots.

A this point I think BOS will be committed to staying below the tax and they can now do that without really sacrificing talent. They can re-sign Hayward and sign a vet min big man to take Kanter's spot. They can S&T him and take back significant salary. They can S&T him to another team for a trade exception that they then use to take back a S&T player of their own in addition to using the MLE. Lots of options.

Interesting. Wonder what the Memphis future draft consideration is specifically. The two reported 2nds?

Wow, Portland drops Hezonjia and absorbs Kanter for... NOTHING. That's an awesome deal for the Blazers

IDK about awesome, but they get a guy who gives them useful minutes for a guy who doesn't. That part is a win. Wonder if they could have done better with a future 2nd and a S&T into the TPE, but this is fineish.

Portland needed a good backup Center, Kanter fits that mold well and the team is comfortable with him. Dumping Hezonjia in the deal is icing on the cake. I expected the Blazers to use the BaE on a center, they can now go after a backup PG.
