Kanter right?
What are the Celtics up to?
As of right now, Boston has 14 players under contract and a cap number of $111,186,856. That currently has them at $21,440,144 to spend before the luxury tax.
If Hayward walks to NY or ATL, BOS likely wants to keep Kanter's deal on the books as a trade matching piece since they'll have plenty of room under the tax to aggregate deals and take back additional salary, even with using the full MLE and bi-annual exception.
If Hayward is re-signed to a new long term deal, or S&T somewhere where Boston takes back salary, then they likely want to dump Kanter to stay under the tax. MEM has a TPE that fits him if the deal is executed before Sunday when the league year starts.
So my guess is that they're waiting to see what happens with FA discussion these next couple days before they settle on a plan. It was reported as MEM sending 2 2nds for the #30 pick but could be amended to them getting #30 for taking on the salary.
