On Meyers Leonard? There's absolutely no requirement that his team option for next season is picked up as part of this deal.

Yup.

Because of his contract situation, he *did* have to consent to be traded, and he did that.

Not surprising there either. I'm sure Miami told him "either OKC buys you out or we do, does it even matter to you whose signature is on the cheque? Btw, if you want to stay in the league you need to rehab your image, and you can start by *not* blocking a trade and being a huge pain in the butt to two different teams."

Why? All that was needed was for Leonard to consent to the trade and it looks like he has. The reason he had to consent was the possibility of the option being turned down.

Buy one of him on every team, problem solved

Ariza has been with almost every NBA team.

I was just thinking I think he might hold most traded to most teams overall.

He's just padding his stats now :D

Not sure including trades, but he's at 10 teams now. From a google search and BBR check, Ish Smith has played for 11.

I've repurposed my Andre Iguodala Grizzlies jersey and my Andrei Kirilenko Sixers jersey as material for knitting a quilt. A little better longevity in keeping you warm than just burning them.

World Wide Wob had him at 11 trades and padding his lead as the all-time leader. Luke Ridnour once got traded 3x in the same day and then again 5 days later so he's still my favorite of the bounces around guys.

Remember when you could get free trade exceptions for non guaranteed contracts?

Pepperidge Farms (or JR Smith) remembers.

Is it possible the Heat acquired Ariza because they plan on making a bigger deal, which involves Iggy?

It is certainly possible, but it makes sense even if they didn't.

If they saw Leonard's contract as sunk, they basically just paid about $1.5M and a distant 2nd for Trevor Ariza. Which isn't a bad idea anyway.

It makes it harder to aggregate.

Agreed. My impression is that this trade indicates a larger trade (like for Collins, Horford, Oladipo, or Giannis) is not going to happen. Without Meyers's salary to match, Miami would have to trade players that are too important. I don't think Iggy gets moved either.

This does help Miami out as well if they're looking to trade for a high $$$ expiring, as Ariza helps bridge that gap better and means they don't have to send as many other players out as cap balast.

The timing of the Tucker trade makes me curious if Miami had talks about both Dipo and Tucker but Houston wanted too much so they just said let's spend nothing and just get Ariza, our guards are fine. Then Houston pivoted and moved on Tucker. Maybe unrelated but the timing is interesting.

I’ve been told a 2007 Miami draft pick is worth more than one in 2013.

Houston wanted/wants picks for Tucker and Oladipo, this put Miami at a disadvantage.
