He gives effort and draws a lot of BS offensive fouls by absolutely getting obliterated by screens (on purpose lol) but in any 1 on 1 situation he gets shaken out of his shoes easier than any wing sized player I've ever seen. He's a fine shooter off the bench but probably not an every game rotation guy

Compared to J holiday and Frank the Tank he is a god on defense at this point atleast lol. His defensive Raptor is actually very good like a +4.0 (top 35 or so in the league) compared to Holidays -2.5 and franks -7.1 (3rd worst in the league with over 100 minutes played) Frank is down right dreadful on that end of the court. Bruno was a +1.3 so he is a +defender as well to replace Frank which is nice. I know defensive raptor isn't end all be all but it's a good solid one to keep up with.

That's because of fluky On/Off numbers in a limited sample size [600 minutes on for Mathews].

Do you really think Mathews is the cause for the Rockets...wait for it...being 10 points per 100 better defensively with Mathews than without him?

absolutley not but do i think He is a better defender this year than what J Hol and Frank the Tank was giving us you better believe it lol. Outside of Bogi those 2 were the worst defenders on our team easily. Trae Young made all 3 of those dudes look like scrubs on defense if that gives you an idea of how bad they was

Garry is a very bad one on one defender, but a pretty good team defender. He hustles hard, closes out hard on shots, he gets killed on ISO's, he takes charges, he'll get some steals, he's not small or a bad athlete but he just doesn't impose a lot of space or respect on the court defensively, he plays smaller then he is... But somehow he will still pump the team up with his energy on D. They call him gritty garry, and I loved him.

On offense, basically a strict 3PT shooter only with very occasional line drives, he is streaky, but overall over his career still pretty damn efficient. He hits deep quick tough contested moving shots often, he actually has a problem staying still and taking normal shots, he always moving, always leaning, and fading which drives people crazy when he's not making them.

Sounds like one of those hustle players a young playoff team lacks. It's a win/win for both sides. Hou gets decent 2nd rounders, not good as projected now OKC has arrived, and Hawks get under the tax line with much younger players and tad bit tougher on defense.
