Philadelphia will have around $65m in cap space, but they'd have to release the cap holds that Melton, Paul Reed, and Springer. That would mean they would all sign somewhere else. If they choose to keep them, that would cut down Philadelphia's cap space to around $40m. The Magic might be able to keep Banchero, both Wagners, Wendell, Suggs, Cole, Black, Jett, and Isaac, and still give Paul George $49m.HadAnEffectHere wrote:Plan A: Get Paul George in FA and then trade all the picks for Lauri, re-sign Oubre (space MLE) and Lowry and Batum (vet mins for both), grab Drummond for a minimum
Plan B: Trade all the picks for Lauri, sign Malik Monk, some other role playing wing (Fontecchio? Derrick Jones Jr?), re-sign Oubre (space MLE) and Lowry and Batum (vet mins for both), grab Drummond for a minimum
Plan C: Trade Embiid for Chet Holmgren and picks

If successful then you max Maxey and try to bring back Melton unless you can do better than Melton with another free agent. That leaves a lot of holes to fill with ring chasers. Need a big wing with 3 and D skills and additional perimeter D and maybe a scorer off the bench.

I can't imagine PG13 wanting to go to Philadelphia over the Clippers unless Ballmer really lowballs him.
why? The clippers have won nothing and there getting old. No reason to think they will ever win a title with the currant roster.
The Sixers have won nothing, Embiid is 30, and they were a play-in team that made it in thanks to Nic Batum going unconscious for a game. What reasons would you have to think the Sixers have a better chance than the Clippers?

What should they do? Target solid 3 and D guys for the 2-4 slots. When you have 2 guys who can average 60 ppg combined, you don't need another big time scorer. You need guys who will do the dirty work, play defense, and shoot at a high level.

Taking the Clippers thing out of the equation, it's a bit disingenuous to dismissively say the Sixers have "won nothing" as if it's a single monolithic entity when Embiid/Maxey/tons of cap space is easily the best situation they've had outside of the one year they had Butler/Redick (and no bench whatsoever).
This is definitely not the time to move Embiid - it's the time to let Morey do what he's paid to do with a largely blank canvas aside from 2 bonafide stars.

The Sixers have had tons of cap space or stars or both many times. This is not new. There's a reason they ended up paying Al Horford $30 mil. a year and it's not because premium FAs are clamoring to go to Philly to play next to Embiid.

Heck no cut Reed and Melton.

If you can't get him you should probably trade Embiid and start building around Maxey. Feels like the Embiid era is over with his injury history and age.
Where does Embiid make sense? What is even his value right now?
