Warriors are 8-1 with Butler... about what I expected. Glad for him anyhow. Great job, Pat. Gotta keep those squeaky wheels off the team. Rozier also just as great as I expected. smh

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

Every team would opt for the flexibility yet you’re trying to frame it like Bruce Brown had more value as a player.
Not quite.
I have the Luxury Tax set at the following:
Tax Line: $187,895,000
First Apron: $195,945,000
Second Apron: $207,824,000
New Orleans Salary with R.J. Instead of Olynyk: $184,817,904
Add in their draft pick(s) and they definitely get over the Tax Line but are still under the 1st Apron but they may be avoiding the Tax this season.
I didn't take anything out of context--New Orleans wouldn't need to pay a lot to reduce salary.

the bigger problem with RJ instead of Olynyk (or Brown) is putting them in the tax this year

I assume it was RJ instead of both, not one or the other.

that would be illegal for salary matching and would put raptors into the tax i think

Well the Raptors figured something out since the report was New Orleans preferred the package over R.J.
My guess is it isn't hard to work in a 3rd team.

With 20 games to go, the Raptors' remaining SoS is . . . 0.358,
with only 3 games remaining against teams over .500
It's going to be really hard to keep from winning 10 games, with lottery odds dropping as they rise in the standings. Last night, the Raptors managed to accidentally win using a closing line-up that had 2 rookies (Walter and Shead) and 3 GLeaguers against the woeful Orlando Magic. Raptors still have a shot at grabbing the last play-in spot unless they can out-tank BRK, PHI and CHI who are all within 4 games and have much harder remaining schedules.
As for the Magic, I don't think I have ever seen a team in more dire need of a lead guard to run the offence. Hard to watch. They have got to address this in the off-season, don't they?

Well, they're going to hope for Suggs to return. It turns out he's probably more essential to Orlando than Paolo or Wagner. They still need another guy, but that was true last summer when they went for KCP as a 3/D wing over a point/combo guard to complement Suggs.

Oh absolutely, Suggs will make a huge difference. He's a demon at the POA and that makes a huge difference by itself. I also like Banchero-Wagner-Suggs as a trio to build around.
But Suggs is a combo guard as well. They need a lead guard who can run the offence and makes his teammates better

Their FO very clearly has a 'type'. They like length and defense. Which leads to a roster which is low on shooting and perimeter creation and could easily cover for a below-average defender to get shooting and perimeter creation. But that's not the guy they want. They want length and defense.

For awhile I think what the Magic needs is Austin Reaves. Can play 1 and 2 (6’ 5”), good playmaker, three level scorer, fits their timeline, has proven to be able to play and complement other stars, and seems to get better every year.
Not sure how they get him from the Lakers tho’

Embiid+ Mccain for AD..
The Mavs spend a year tanking, they select this year and next in the lottery (they own their picks) while their stars recover to be and start the 26/27 season completely healthy with Embiid/Kyrie.
From 27 onwards the Mavs no longer have control of their picks, but in this scenario they would have accumulated some young talent, for the uncertain future with a core of McCain/Christie/O-Max/Lively/FRP 25 and 26...
The 76ers with PG on the downhill slope and no brakes, try to maximize their window with AD
Maxey/Grimes/PG/AD/Yabusele

At some point the shine wears off a GM. I don't know if it's because they get less invested or the world phases them out. But seems like a few great GMs have been having a rough few years.

Finding whatever value Philly will add in a Joel/AD swap is an idea I have tossed around..
but I think in a Joel trade, Philly is rebuilding at least for another year. So think you need a third team getting Joel, Dallas gets Joel and “…” assets from third team… Philly gets “…” assets from third team and bad salary.
I don’t know if PJ is extending on a 2yr41 or 3yr63 (max Dallas can offer in August) but if he does, I would not be trading him. Even if it’s just a 2yr41 but the 2nd year is a player option.

Watched Black for the 2 games in a row against a Raptor squad blatantly tanking, keeping its best players on the bench in crunch time because of "minutes restrictions", and winning anyway. As others have noted, Wagner and Banchero played well, but the rest of the Magic were pretty tragic.
Black is a good young prospect, above-average defender, and may yet develop into a rotation piece -- but he is nowhere near ready to run a good team

I think Philly is more likely to try and trade Embiid for future pieces to rebuild around Maxey + McCain than double down on trying to win now.

I've got a strong feeling Black gets moved in the summer with one of WCJ or Jett and a 1st for a better fitting player. Black is really the only decent young piece that shows some promise that could entice a tanking team.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.
