The caveat here is regardless of Embiid's, a Deni/Maxey/McCain is more intriguing to me than Maxey/McCain/#3 Pick, both in 2026 and over the duration of Deni's contract. Philadelphia retains flexibility and control over its future, even with the picks owed.

That's the thing, though. It doesn't work at all if Embiid is cooked. They won't have any flexibility in the next 3 years no matter what, so they're better off sticking to the cost control of rookie scale deals than paying the premium that DA's contract gives to his trade value. Maxey + PG + Embiid is over 150MM by themselves in '26-27. There aren't any other routes left to take.

Maxey + McCain + DA as a core is hardcapped as a 2nd round team and there's not much scaling left to go unless McCain goes bananas. Then you still have to solve the issue of that backcourt being tiny and you're running low on assets to make that happen. Even if you want to look at it from purely a PR perspective, you can sell hope if you just make the pick. If you trade it for an undermarket contract, you have to show on court results.

First, kudos to Avdija, and to Portland for getting him. A year ago Avdija for #3, or #3 with some minor additional compensation, would have been crazy, and now it's a good discussion.

And my major reaction is: glad I'm not in the Sixers front office. If you imagine a year in which Embiid is healthy-ish, and George recovers at least some of his value, this could be a really good trade for them. Embiid / Avdija / George / McCain / Maxey, with Grimes as a 6th man, in a weak east - sure. If you imagine that Embiid is never healthy again, and George isn't climbing back off the cliff he fell from this year, it's a lousy trade for them - they're much better off taking a shot at a high upside pick who could become the best or second-best player on a contender. Personally, not an optimist re either Embiid or George, so I'd say no.

Rage bait? He's literally one of the best 3/D players in the league. I would happily start him next to Toumani and have one of the best perimeter defenses in the league.

I would trade Deni for 3 in second. Rookie deal, better timeline, still no star. I think Ace could be a top scorer in the league, and portland doesnt have an alpha.

That's a good cheap rookie core and if our picks are meh/average, we get a high pick next year. I really dont want to rush this rebuild and building through the draft is the best route.

I'm perfectly fine staying at 11 for there will be a group of guys of more or less ability in the middle
lottery and 1-2 two of these guys will be there at 11. There is no need to trade up for 3 unless the
team has decided to move on from Scoot/Sharpe for the proposed target (VJ) will replace of them.

I'm in the camp that I'd do it for 2 but not 3

Nobody is giving up a top 10 pick in this year's draft for Scoot Henderson. If the Blazers feel they can still develop Scoot Henderson into being that good of a player where he would be worth that much or more, then okay keep him. Otherwise any Scoot Henderson trade should come with tempered expectations if you're a Blazers fan.

I don't like this for the Magic. Giving up this much for a unproven guy is just a big overpay that has almost no chance of paying off. If the Magic are going to give up this much, why not aim higher?

Nobody is giving up a top 10 in year's draft for Scoot Henderson. If the Blazers feel they still developing Scoot Henderson into being that good of a player where he would be worth that much, then okay keep him. Otherwise any Scoot Henderson trade should come with tempered expectations if you're a Blazers fan.

It wasn’t a Portland fan proposing trading Scoot, and I do think they plan to keep him.

My point was Portland values Scoot above their own 11th pick as an outgoing asset in a trade.
