they had to pay 10M to Duncan in dead money otherwise? they save money here and have a playable body/tradable contract

He opted out. They didn't have to pay him or help him at all. They may have like Font. They may be getting a second. Who knows?

he opted out becuase of this deal. He wouldn't have opt out otherwise

Yeah, Im a bit confused by that as well. It’s not bad but I’d have Simone behind Wiggins, Slomo, Jovic, and Highsmith for forward minutes and Bam going to play some 4 with Ware..

Det should add a second or two..

Or maybe this was the cost of Pat getting Duncan to opt out and Riley really has this much power..

Yeah this is the answer. And why we didn’t give up other assets.

Only first year fully guaranteed. Inflated to three years to fill S&T requirements. That feels soooooooo much better.

Need to see the exact numbers, but assuming it’s 16m, 16m w/ 5m buyout, 16m team option is a whole lot less obnoxious. Pleased.

This is worse than last year (unless Ivey Ausar and Ron take a huge leap) and if Tobias goes down we are ****. We'll sing 1 more guy probably we only have 13 guys under contract. Right now we have LeVert and Cade playing a lot of minutes at SF with Ausar playing 16 minutes at PF, meh. I don't like it.

Jalen Duren (28) / Isaiah Stewart (20) / Paul Reed
Tobias Harris (32) / / Bobi Klintman
Ausar Thompson (25) / Ron Holland (20) /
Jaden Ivey (30) / Duncan Robinson (25) / Chaz Lanier
Cade Cunningham(34) / Caris LeVert (26) / Marcus Sasser

Guys of his skillet are slowing becoming irrelevant in the NBA.Guys who play no defense and are poor playmakers have almost no value in today's NBA where 3 and D level players have never been more valued. This is a terrible signing for the Pistons and instant regret.

Disagree that he's a better defender. Stats dont back that up even beyond steals.

Duncan is a better movement shooter but he's not worth 12M more than GTJ. Should've made closer to Kennard's money imo. This is one of my least favourite deals of the offseason

I know you are the last believer in Gary Trent Jr. I won't take that away from you. I've got my guys I can't leave either. I wanted the Lakers to trade Maxi and have him get waived and bring him back to Dallas. He's washed beyond Trent, but you'll never talk me out of him. :D

Trent is washed?

It’s a gamble for sure but so is trusting Beasley.

That’s a lot more money than I would have liked to pay though.

I had you guys making a splash this off-season.

I still want you guys to get Lauri or something wild like that.

Apparently Detroit still has the room exception after this. That’s the silver lining I’m choosing to highlight.

Trey Liles could be interesting for the Room Exception.

i was going to say this. He was initially just a jump shooter, but you can tell he put in some work to better his overall game.

A bit overpriced. But we needed a movement shooter to replace Beasley.

Both the guys we brought in are Michigan alums. Hopefully that helps the vibe.

Cade - Ivey - Auser - Tobias - Duren
Sasser - LeVert - Robinson - Holland - Stewart - Reed

Is Holland not going to play backup 4? If not, what is the plan for him. Seems 2-3 is pretty tight for minutes at this point.

I don't think Reed or Sasser are getting much time

Cade - Ivey - Auser - Tobias - Duren
LeVert - Robinson - Holland - Stewart
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Why? One is a good off-ball movement shooter who has some playmaking chops, can be a cog in a good defensive system and is a pro'd pro.

The other is Gary Trent Jr.
