Re: Least desirable trade destination
I just want to thank everyone for not including Washington DC on the list. True that as HL Menken said, it combines southern efficiency with northern charm, but all those embassies and foreign national communities for the world player set should count for something.
Organizational rep counts for a lot. 5 years ago, DC would probably have been mentioned but the current management team is getting a lot of positive reviews (a whole lot considering the tiny amount of wins they've produced) where the old Ferry to Grunfeld eras didn't (and shouldn't have).

If the poll was 'most hopeless franchise over the last 50 years' they'd have been my #1. For most liveable city they narrowly missed the cut for this poll.

Re: Least desirable trade destination
I think it’s probably pretty individual really.
Taxes for sure come into play as well as market.
Utah has weird politics and a small market, but also spectacular settings if you are into that sort of thing. Great weather if you like seasons. Reasonable taxes.
Oregon has high income tax but no sales tax…but weather is also a possible turnoff.
I’d hate Orlando but that’s just me.

Since the Wiz have a title and a finals run in the last 50 years, I'd put them ahead of the Clippers and T-Wolves for that time frame, though certainly a bottom dweller. Now, last 45 years, they have real shot.

Re: Least desirable trade destination
I'd be down on Toronto because I don't want to be in Canada and have to constantly go through customs. It's also very cold.
I'd be down on Detroit because it's rundown and Minnesota because it's cold and a bit weird. Milwaukee is unappealing, similar to Minnesota.
OKC and San Antonio are pretty dull. Portland would be depressing, just because it's cloudy, never really warm and politically a bit off.
Utah is milquetoast, but it's quiet, it's scenic and if you bring your own entourage and travel, you can live a country club lifestyle. You just have to go to Vegas or LA to get loosed up.

Toronto should be the clear number 1 least desirable destination for any US born player who isn’t a borderline G Leaguer.
Do you know that have to go through customs every time they play on the road? Imagine needing a passport to work. It’s insane. You’d need to carry proof of citizenship with you. Who wants to do that?

It isn't about being born in the US or not. The fact it is another country than the other teams makes it difficult in general.

It’s definitely the hardest city to build a winner in. And no there isn’t a close second.
International players don’t care nearly as much as Americans for multiple reasons I won’t get into.

Re: Least desirable trade destination
Surprised memphis and Portland made the list repeatedly. Both underrated cities. Decent travel hub of outgoing flights. Food scene and people are interesting in a good way.
Think OKC don’t belong on the list for their arena culture and fans.
Toronto a great city for millionaires. Just cold but players love NYC.
For me the answer is Cleveland. Rather be in Detroit or Indy.
Edit: Cleveland second to SLC

My bad. They've been the most hopeless for the last 47 years.

I'm a little surprised Toronto is #2. Like, yes, many players hate it there... but more than Minny, OKC, or Memphis?

Surprised to see people thinking SLC is cold. Other than Nov-Feb it’s quite mild…and winter in the city is pretty mild. A few cold days and a few snow days , and actually hot in the summer months.

That is most of the season. I mean, compared to the Midwest teams it is definitely a better winter. But still lots of snow and gets cold (but beautiful).

As someone who lived all over the county and moved to Utah I’m glad this is what people think. Please stop moving here!!

We're talking about the perspective of a young, rich, probably black bachelor. To that demographic I can see why Utah lacks appeal.

Re: Least desirable trade destination
I would go with the Knicks. I absolutely love the city but:
- the owner is a drunken idiot who was born on third base with bases loaded and can´t even make it to home
- the arena is a dump
- the local media is absolutely brutal and constantly sets unrealistic expectations
- the fans are, aside from Philly´s, the highest concentrations of jerks who will boo their own players on a whim
If you are going to play in NYC, much better to play for the Nets.

Training camp they end of the season is Sept thru April…so yeah a good half of the season. I guess it’s eye of the beholder a bit as well. Seems mild to me, but if you are used to Florida then it’s cold.

Weather wise Utah is pretty awesome, but some of the culture is pretty whack.
