By taking back a bad contract. (Lafrenz)

Boston was only interested in that situation because they could turn an expiring into Garnett.

So... it was really a complicated three way trade that was done at different times.

Portland and Boston traded (getting Portland a high 1st and Boston an expiring). Boston and Minnesota traded (getting Minnesota the expiring Boston got from Portland and getting Boston Garnett). Portland and Minnesota traded (getting Portland Roy and Minnesota Foye).

The total three way looks something like this:

Portland Out:
Sebastian Telfair
Theo Ratliff
2008 2nd (Trent Plaisted)

Portland In:
Dan Dickau
Raef Lafrenz
Brandon Roy

Boston Out:
Raef Lafrenz
Dan Dickau
Ryan Gomes
Gerald Green
Al Jefferson
2009 1st (top 3 protected)
Minnesota's future first from the Sczerbiak trade
Cash considerations

Boston In:
2008 2nd (Trent Plaisted)
Kevin Garnett

Minnesota Out:
Brandon Roy
Kevin Garnett

Minnesota In:
Sebastian Telfair
Theo Ratliff
Randy Foye
Ryan Gomes
Gerald Green
Al Jefferson
2009 1st (top 3 protected)

As you can see, Minnesota got thoroughly hosed, Boston sent away pretty much any "future" they had, and Portland turned absolute trash into the third best SG in the NBA.

Hence where being Pritch-slapped came from :P (Although he has asked us not to use the term)
