I can't tell if that's awful or really good

Same with Love and the Cavs
I wouldn't be shocked to see Love take a buyout after the deadline. He'll have made most of his money for this season already and he'll get two postseason runs out of it.

Think the Celtics FO is more attached to Horford than they realistically should be. They seem pretty comfortable with his role for next season and how he fits in. Personally I'm really worried about father time looming around the corner for Horford and him falling off, but I'd say they'd be looking for a significant change/upgrade for the move. So unless he's being used as salary ballast in a trade for a star, I think he sticks around at the very least until the deadline.

Given that context, I don't think the above would work for C's. Morris can't give depth at the 5 and C's just paid a first already to dump Kemba for Horford, doubt they pay the same price to turn that into Morris/House.

Maybe if it was Ibaka instead it'd be more appealing since he's more of a 4/5, but even in that circumstance I don't see them tacking on a first. More likely they add in a guy like Romeo Langford who has disappointed due to health, but is still on his rookie deal so they can still offer the Nets-esque pick package for a disgruntled star.

Christian Wood is my ideal PF pairing for Robert Williams, so I'm hoping that if Houston goes the firesale route and he somehow ends up on the table that the C's can find a way to get him.

Someone brought up the idea of Wall agreeing to opt out and extend with a new team, should he get to go to a destination he wants to go to, which made me wonder, would it be preferable to have wall on a 2 year $49M deal after this season or 1 year $49M and just rip the bandaid off with the big cap hit?

No clue of Wall would be on board but an interesting idea that gets Wall his money and makes him a bit more tradeable to a team like the clippers
Would effectively make
Ibaka+Kennard+Bledsoe for Wall only add $4M this season, $8M next season (assuming they'd waive Bledsoe for his partial guarantee, otherwise it would save them money) and $9M the season after that

Would still ask for Jaygupp and KJ or Usman to make that considerable.

$4M in salary is a lot more considering the LT, which was a reason they made the Bev+ for Bledsoe deal, along with availability. Wall reneges both of those, and you also want them to trade away one of only two centers on the roster?

Any team trading for Wall the player and not just Wall the penalty that gets me a bunch of stuff from Houston is likely a high payroll team that has enough ballast to send out but enough talent to still compete. So I think all those teams would want the 2 year deal because of the enormous tax savings.

If its Cleveland for instance dealing with their own albatross they should definitely just rip the bandaid next year.

It's impossible to trade Wall. Nobody wants him and Houston is not going to package assets to dump him.

Wall is probably going to end up sitting out the entire year. He'll then opt in his final year and work out a buyout with Houston for maybe 80% of his salary.

Yeah I agree, I guess more what I was trying to ask was: does that make him more appealing to trade for?

Really not worth going too far down the rabbit hole because it's just a hypothetical, but thought it was a really creative idea

Only team that I can really see is the much discussed Clippers just because they can pile up enough disposable flotsam. And yeah I think cutting his salary in half but extending it an extra year definitely makes him more appealing due to the tax savings.
