Smitty, I need help in another thread and didn't know another way to ask for your help.
Using projected cap numbers for the 2016 off-season. If the Kings hypothetically do poorly this season and DeMarcus Cousins requests to be traded while Brooklyn wins the second overall pick in the draft lottery, the Mavericks finish with the 8th overall pick post-lottery and the Celtics own first rounder is 16th overall.
If the Celtics were to overpay to land DeMarcus Cousins and offered Marcus Smart, 2nd Overall Draft Pick (via Brooklyn), 8th Overall Draft Pick (via Dallas), 16th Overall Draft Pick (via Boston) and a Traded Player Exception to make up the salary difference, how much cap space would Boston being looking at in 2016? Would they still have enough cap space that such an overpay would be worth it and then build a contender around Avery Bradley and DeMarcus Cousins plus the other young pieces that would still be on their roster via free agency?
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

I'd have to run it and won't have time for a while.
One problem with what you laid out is that TPEs can't be combined, or aggregated, with other players to take in a higher salaried player. They can only be used by themselves to acquire players. Does that make sense?

So if Boston had the cap space to absorb the difference between Cousins and Smart, it technically wouldn't be in the form of a TPE?

Here is kind of an example. Ignore the matching purposes for salaried out and tax vs. non-tax. This is just to keep it simple:
Team A is taking Player 1 who makes 12 million from Team B.
Team A has to match salary through player salaries and/or space. They can't trade a 6 million player and a 6 million TPE to make the match. TPEs can't be aggregated with outgoing salary to take in a larger salary.
Hopefully that makes sense.

Wroten is supposed to play tomorrow, so Philly will be having to make a roster move before then. Sorry.

That will knock them down to only 3 guys out (Marshall, Landry and Embiid) right? So, yeah. I heard a rumor that they were looking at cutting Pressey, since they won't need another PG with Wroten back and Marshall eventually coming back. Have you heard any more?

Pressey probably makes the most sense, but it is Philly so who knows.

And just like that Pressey is gone.
