This trade was Phil looking into the future. Shedding 27M of Lopez is a big win. He's got a lot of cap space in 2017.

I never though Chicago would be able to move Rose for positive value, but they were able to pull off a pretty good return.

Huge win for the Bulls even if you think Rose can "rebound" (whatever that means at this point).
Maybe it gives Rose an opportunity without any pressure (no hometown pressure at least) to try to recoup some value and get another deal.... that would be what the Knicks are hoping for I assume.

I like it for both teams, if Rose plays well and they sign Dwight Howard, a starting cast of...

Derrick Rose /
Justin Holiday (?) /
Carmelo Anthony /
Kristaps Porzingis /
Dwight Howard / Kyle O'Quinn

... is interesting. The defense with Porzingis and Dwight, along with the play-making of Carmelo is pretty interesting; Derrick Rose could be quite the "X-factor".

I don't see this as a big win for Chicago. It's pretty good trade for both sides. I think after last year Phil didn't want Lopez anymore so he wanted to dump him, then they included Calderon which is negative value. They get to take a chance on rose for 1 year if it doesn't work then it doesn't kill them because they are a big market. Then it boils down to Grant for Holiday and a 2nd which seems pretty fair maybe a slight win for Chicago.

Curious to see who else Phil adds to the team. Does he view Porzingas as a center or power forward. Today's going great!

I like it for the Knicks under one condition... The Knicks don't go out and overpay a ton of long term salaries to the Kent Bazemore's of free agency.

Now if the Knicks MAX Dwight Howard and overpay Eric Gordon on 1 year deals, I'm good with it.

Was surprising. Rose pretty much had to get out of Chicago. He'll get a clean slate in NY. I think we'll need to wait a season to see who won this trade.

I think the added flexibility advantage makes it good for the Knicks if we don't overpay mediocre guys now in free agency this summer. I would try to overpay Dwight Howard and Eric Gordon on 1 year deals if possible.

I for sure see Dwight going to NY now. Before not so much.

If I'm Chicago I'm needing to go after a solid point guard.

Maxing Dwight would make this trade worse IMO. The only way this makes sense for the Knicks is if the plan is to have as much cap space as possible next year. Signing Dwight long term would go against that.

Rose was arguably the worst starting non-rookie point guard in the league last year. He's become a volume shooter than doesn't shoot very well and is now one of the worst perimeter defenders in the game. Seems like a huge step forward for the Bulls and a big mistake made by Phil Jackson.

Phil's goal was to make a lot of cap space for next off-season and get a high risk/high reward player, which he got. Seems like a solid trade through and through.

This trade really comes down to what you think about Grant. Because Calderon + Lopez is neutral value IMO. Lopez has some value himself but it's negated by including Calderon - at least before FA starts.

Such an unappealing Isiah Thomas/James Dolan era Knicks type of trade. This team should be trading Melo and putting young players around Porzingis not chasing after some win now team

I like that both Chicago and NY fans are upset at this trade.

There seems to be a pretty massive contradiction here. Dwight Howard is one of the "Kent Bazemore's of free agency". Actually, he's quite a bit worse.

Roses talent didn't disappear. He's still quick and he's got game. He got Pau a million open shots this year. Now those shots are going to Melo and Porzingis. Also Hornacek >>>> Hoiberg.
