Re: Las Vegas Summer League Notes
Kind of weird that Atlanta expects their less ready, later pick to play this year and their first, nba ready, senior (?) pick to stay in d-league. Prince probably showed more in Las Vegas.
Both might stay in D-League most of the year due to Bud.

I really hope the Nene potentially starting is just the Rockets people posturing. Clint has to start. Thanks for all the info though!

Isn't your backup PG basically LeBron? I know not technically, but he'll probably be initiating most of the offense when Irving sits. Surround him with shooters and you'll be fine.

3. They also admit that they are looking for a true star, but won't mess up the team to do it.

"He's the best shooter in the league. Yes better than the Warriors guys."
Come on...this is just a ridiculous thing to say. Until Booker or anyone else posts 30 a game on 0.504 / 0.454 / 0.908 over 82 games, they are not the best shooter in the league. I get hyping up your own team and all but this would make me lose all respect for whoever said it.
Same with Rockets thinking they suddenly have best offense in the league. I wouldn't want someone making any sort of key decisions who was so far removed from reality personally.

Welcome to the summer in the NBA. Everyone thinks their guys are awesome and they are a title contender. Well, except for the 10% of guys who are hated by their teams and they can't wait to dump them.

I guess. We tried to get away from that this year and lebron played a lot more off the ball.
If mo can stay healthy I think they'll try have him handle the ball with the second unit like Delly did even though lebron played with the second unit. Don't see it working as well though.
Edit- the offense was very potent with lebron as a screen setter and cutter. We didn't really get to use it in the finals but it was probably our most effective play all year up until then.

1. They feel like they are a playoff team this year - "We addressed every need we had. We're much better now than at the end of last year."
2. On Darren Collison - "That is still playing out, but man he messed things up for us. And there aren't any good PGs left. Could end up a problem."
3. On all the bigs - "Vlade (Divac) believes you can't ever have enough size and it gives us trade chips. The league won't stay small forever!"
4. They really like Duje Dukan and feel he's improved a lot. He may be brought back.
5. On Rudy Gay - "If he doesn't want to be here, that is on him. But we think he'll come around. He likes the guys and he's ok with coach (Dave Joerger). If not, then he needs to go. We don't need locker room lawyers."
Sounds like a mess.
I like how we addressed every need yet also might have a major problem at PG. If we addressed every night, we wouldn't have any problems...
And the Rudy thing sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Las Vegas Summer League Notes
Great thread we have some scoop on other teams' impressions.
You are right on ZU, during draft Lakers never considered him because we were certain Boston would pick him in 1 of their 500 picks and surely a Euro stash kind of player, esp that he's only 19.5 yrs when the season starts. His game, his smooth jumpers, good FT% and shotblocking simply made him a regret for many teams seeking a big man in the 1st round.
Ingram, he was my guy all along and even if we had the #1 pick, I would certainly pick him. You can see from threads everywhere about my fascination w/ the skinny kid.
Deng will help, but the biggest impact will be Mozgov. Moz is a rim protector himself and a good roll man. The Lakers' offense will limit his participation to 28mpg but that will be more than enough to start, stabilize, help in wins, but also give time to mentor ZU and hold the center position with atleast NBA-level talent.
Deng, I think will slide to stretch-4 when some matchups call for it. I think he plays 20mpg at SF and 10mpg at PF, leaving some 25-28mpg for Ingram at SF despite not starting.
Starters:
Russell, Clarkson, Deng, Randle, Mozgov
Spacing:
Russell, Clarkson, Ingram, Deng, Zubac.
Bench mob:
Calderon, Williams, Ingram, Nance, Zubac

I hope you don't mind, Smitty, but I posted your comments about the Spurs on Spurstalk. I credited you, gave your Twitter account and linked to this thread. I just think your comment about Dedmon is easily the biggest Spurs-related surprise of the off-season and was worthy of discussion with the wider Spurs nation.

I'm sorry what did Stephen curry do at 19? Oh that's right he was in college, not crushing it like booker. Just stop being that old guy ywlling at clouds and realize that Russell/booker/kat will be dominating the league in a few years.

Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Re: Las Vegas Summer League Notes
Raptors think they are in the best team in the EAST? and should have beaten Cleveland in the playoffs last year? Bull crap, Cleveland crushed them each time in Cleveland. The only reason why Toronto beat them on their homecourt, is the Raptor fans carried the team. Plus Biyombo left and came to my team, So Toronto for sure will be a little worse without Biyombo

I'm sorry, do you lack basic reading comprehension skills? Nowhere did I say Booker was a bad player or that he wouldn't continue to get better. I just said right now, as in today, he is not the best shooter in the NBA. Go ahead and argue the other side of that if you want - meaning tell me why you think anyone is better than the guy who just had the best shooting season of all-time at shooting the basketball.
