Beal to Nets with Warriors

I’m saying what I said already: the Wizards are only getting the #20 and a 2022 FRP from the Nets over what the Warriors are providing. I’d much rather try and close that gap for the W’s than help someone else get a superstar. That it’s 2 (likely) picks in the 20s means the value gap isn’t that significant.

How is Beal’s defense though? I agree, we should be looking for the “star” but I’d highly prefer one that defends.

He’s probably the worst defensive guard in the association, at least the worst who get major minutes. He’d be great as a first player off the bench, given his ability to score, but he’s paid too well for that.

He's never been a plus defender, but this is way overstating it. I also don't fault him for going into the crapper defensively the past season, as he was carrying the entire team offensively, something he wouldn't need to do here. He's an elite offensive player going into his prime.. perfect as a #2/3 option with Curry and Klay. In meaningful games, you could have 2 of them on the court at all times and still cause some serious hell for the defense.

It's not that Dlo's defensive effort is the worst I've ever seen, it's the physical make up of his body that is so damning for him. He is incredibly slow and has no foot speed whatoever, so his laterall quickness on man D is literally non existent. Even slow backup players blow by him like he's not even there, which puts untold pressure on his teams defense every single posession. The rest of the team are always having to cover and leave others open and creates a nightmare defensively for coaches.

Then he'll go hit some 3's, score 25 points, finish the game -28 and his team loses by 20.

Beal can't be as bad on D as D'lo.

At the same time he was the highest minute player on the Nets last season in 81 games. They were dead average for defensive rating. I rarely saw Russell not try on the Nets. Mental and physical mistakes/shortcomings sure, but rarely lack of effort.

Maybe he knew he was out the door in GS. Either way, he did his role as tank commander. You should be grateful.

I tremble to think of where the Warriors would be going if KAT wasn't pining for his little buddy. Poor T-Wolves management were in a lose/lose scenerio because of it.
