I think people are trying to read too much into it.

Weaver didn't see Brown as a viable piece moving forward and decided to move him for some sort of asset. I don't think a more complex explanation is required.

It's surprising to some, but the truth is Brown was a clear net negative on offense. By some measures he isn't even replacement level on that side of the ball. He started for the Pistons because he was one of our few guys who could effectively defend at an NBA level, and it's not like he's elite in that regard either.

This ain't that deep.

Seriously, this isn't very difficult to understand.

The Pistons didn't view Brown as a long term piece and traded him for "2 2nds".

Good deal for both sides.

Musa is very young and shows promise, but he had litte playing time at BKN, I hopw its a win win. Detroit can gamble on guys, and BKN got a nice rotation player

Feel like we lost the trade but it's nothing significant to spark much feelings towards it. Just got home from work so I got alot of catching up to do on today.

IDK how Musa is such a bad shooter. I think he has great form. Hopefully its mental, he has upside as a 7th man type swing if he can get that shot down.

He had arguably the worst offensive season of all time. i know rookie/euro transitioning/etc. but he literally could not do anything. it was gross.

If we keep him and Sekou on the floor we're a cinch for worst record.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

He is decent on defense thats it. Besides that he is a net negative on offense, he isnt very good.

Good pick up for the Nets. Surprised the Pistons traded Brown, he was one of their few bright spots last year. Think it will end up being a good trade for both sides, Musa still has a ton of potential. I'm guessing the Nets wanted a younger replacement for Garrett Temple.

One slight thing of note here... Musa is Bosnian and I think there is a large Bosnian contingent in Detroit. When we had Mirza Teletovic (also Bosnian) and would go to Detroit, he had his own cheering section. Otherwise, Musa is a gunner, who never showed he could shoot, is a poor defender and has a crouched posture which seems to hamper him on O and D. He has decent size and is competitive, but until he starts hitting his 3s at a respectable clip (24% last year), he has no real use.

Really? What a bizarre trade and entire offseason in the Motor City.

Only explanation I can think of is that he didn't care for Brown and wanted to get whatever he good for him.

They took a flier on Musa and I guess they didn't like what they saw.

It's whatever. You'll never get me to mourn the loss of Bruce Brown, and there's plenty else to actually be upset with about our offseason. This doesn't fall on my radar.

Josh Jackson also seemed to be a bit of a positive surprise - maybe he edged out Musa in terms of what he brings to the table (even though very different skill set)

Musa not a great off ball player but on ball which he would never be in BKN outside of garbage time with that current line up and pretty much the same with a young roster in DET with a rookie pg etc it really made no sense for DET to do this esp if they were going to waive Musa all along.
I think he still has a pretty useful skillset albeit pretty much remains an unknown to those not paying attn.
I'd snatch him up asap if I needed a bench scorer at the 3/4 who can create his own shot etc
