I think people are trying to read too much into it.
Weaver didn't see Brown as a viable piece moving forward and decided to move him for some sort of asset. I don't think a more complex explanation is required.
It's surprising to some, but the truth is Brown was a clear net negative on offense. By some measures he isn't even replacement level on that side of the ball. He started for the Pistons because he was one of our few guys who could effectively defend at an NBA level, and it's not like he's elite in that regard either.
This ain't that deep.
Seriously, this isn't very difficult to understand.
The Pistons didn't view Brown as a long term piece and traded him for "2 2nds".
Good deal for both sides.
