It's protected, unclear how protected.

With how stacked the West is and with the play-ins I got my fingers crossed for top 10 protected, but in all likeliness, Blazers make the playoffs next year baring injuries.

Agree, the price for Covington at the deadline was basically two firsts. Wolves got the nets 1st via the hawks, and flipped the houston 1st to denver for beasley and herg.

I think 99% of Blazer fans are going to be ecstatic about this deal.

Portland now needs to convert the MLE into another solid piece, and sign some C/PG depth. I suspect they are done dealing without a 1st this year or next, unless they have found a taker for Simons.

And the Bazemore TPE that can eat a mini-MLE contract. Contender? No. But pretender where if everything lines up just right...

They'll complete thsillye trade after the draft, so portland will pick for Houston then trade that guy and next year's first for Covington

Seems like a silly way to get around the Stepien rule

Lmao

Those silly GMs and their shananigans in trying to operate within the CBA.

What will they come up with next, pick swaps or something?
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Best fit possible Portland could get. Best assets Houston could get. Like it for both, but maybe Houston more, do we have any more word on the pick protection?

Only word I've seen so far is lotto for 2021. Not sure what happens after that

My feeling exactly. Portland gets exactly the kind of guy they're looking for, and the Rockets start re-stocking the shelves. Match made in heaven.

He went for 2 1sts last trade deadline too. Then it was 17 and 22. Now it is 16 and ? Seems consistent.

Lottery protected until 2027. If it doesn't convey as a first it becomes a 2nd.

https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/trail-blazers/trail-blazers-acquire-robert-covington-without-having-give-any-core-players

The other first-round pick sent to the Rockets is lottery protected, beginning next season and through 2027 -- and if not conveyed by then it will become a second-round choice.

Didn’t think POR would get another shot at Roco - but good for them for going for it. I think his D is a little overrated (at least on smalls) but he is a much needed wing defender for them.

Finally Portland gets a forward worth noting and just as good, he is not over paid. Houston backtracks on the Capela trade but got back close to equal value with two 1st. Though I do think it will take one hell of a late first round selection to make up for Capela's production, they get two tries.

I like it for both teams.

WOW. These Western teams are not playing. Great move from POR. RoCo adds a lot of what they lacked last year. Another playoff lock in the West. I'm excited for the season to start. So many changes and teams wanting to win. Rumors are that there will be more division games, so that's good news for Dallas that Houston is rebuilding.

I love this for Portland. The team is in win now mode, the West is improving and its do-or-die time for the Lillard era. RoCo is everything we have ever wanted in a role paying forward. Someone with the size to match up with the giant elite forwards in the West.

Love it even more seeing the protection on the pick and doubly more with us moving the 2021 rather than 2022 FRP. RoCo has a deal that expires summer 2022, the same time Nurkic is due to be paid and the summer we re-evaluate the roster and blow it up if needed.

This is a great deal for PDX. The price was right, I would argue less than HOU paid for him like 6 months ago.
