Also agree. Knicks must be trying to move up more.
#8 + #23 = #4 ?

Maybe the Knicks also eat the Felico deal?

Why does Chicago do this?

New GM AK is known for moving back to collect more assets. Dumping Felicio gives them the cap space to likely sign AK’s guy, Jerami Grant. Jerami is also Horace Grant’s nephew who still works for the Bulls as Advisor to President and Chief Operating Officer Michael Reinsdorf.

Not sure how credible this "Smith" fellow is, though. Sounds like a fake name if you ask me.

Hmm, what about a follow up at draft if mavs guy isnt there of 18+ justin jackson for 23+ frank? Im not 100% sold on it from mavs pov, but it kinda makes sense and i personally think frank could be great in a carlisle system

In isolation this seems like it favors the Jazz slightly, as the dropoff from 23 to 27 doesn't seem to quite make up for 38 (and Ante Tomic doesn't do anything to counterbalance that). But it looks like either or both teams are just setting the table for something else, so I want to give this an INC for now.

But the reasons to do this now are two fold:
1) There is a player that the Knicks tried to give a promise at #27 that also had a promise below them
2) Utah had multiple trade down offers on the table, and the Knicks didn't want to risk not moving up for a specific player

I would say the main reason to do this now is that this is part of a move-up offer, and I'm not surprised by it at all. If you want to move up from say 8 to 5 you can't ask Cleveland "just wait, let's all see who's available at #27 first".

The only real reason not to under these circumstances is if Cleveland (or whoever) says "actually I'd rather have had 27 and 38" for whatever reason. In which case oops, but just go buy a 2nd with cash and add it back in anyway.

Solid deal. I have it as a slight win for Utah but it depends on what NYK does with the pick.

Yeah, this is about where I come out. In the absence of a chance to scoop up a specific guy who falls, this feels like a slight overpay from NY in this draft, but it's close enough that it could easily make sense for both depending on what comes next.

Do you think that's right? I feel like it's maybe true slightly more than half the time for moves into the top 5 (but see Fultz, Mayo, for example) but I feel like the trades where a team moves up to get their guy outside the top 5 fail as often as they succeed... Has anyone ever run the numbers?

I’ll admit that I am just going on vague memory, but I ‘think’ it is mostly true. In general, there seems to be a correlation of higher picks being more likely to be successful, and 2nd rounders rarely pan out in general with most that start in the league being nothing but role players and only a few standouts.

Seems like the Knicks really like Toppin, and are trying to jump over CLE, where he would be the hometown hero (before taking his talents to south beach).

If I'm the Knicks I stay at #8. IMO - I would be happy with Haliburton, Vassel or Toppin, and might have Toppin ranked #3.
