I think he has Phoenix written all over him after he gets bought out because nobody is trading for that contract. A reunion with CP3 seems like something he'd be in favor of.

A buyout won’t happen if he doesn’t give up next year’s option. If he waived it, I could see Detroit just waiving him at that point. Detroit won’t pay 38 mill to drop him.

Given how it seems he feels about Balmer, I’d be surprised if he didn’t sign with the Lakers...
So you are saying he loves Balmer and is going to go sabotage the Lakers from within?
This year's Montrezl Harrell?

I don't think there's any contract horrid enough for the Pistons to receive value. They probably just cut him to go to the Lakers.

What about the Kings? They can send Hield + Bjelica for Griffin, works salary wise and they can start Haliburton.

I'm thinking something like D'Angelo Russell + Juancho + Jake Layman + Ed Davis. Even if Blake is over paid and sucks he can't be worse than those guys.

Blake might really benefit from the celtic culture/environment.
He is very slow nowadays, he lost all his athleticism due to his injuries, but I think he also lost his motivation. Whenever he wants to win badly, he will try hard and get decent numbers, but most of the times he seems uninterested and he plays absoluttely no defense.
He doesn't fit Detroit's new culture, we're building around athletic guys who can shoot and play defense like Josh Jackson/Saddiq Bey and Jerami Grant, Blake is only taking minutes from those guys at this point.
I think the most logic would be a buyout, but I could see Weaver attaching Sekou and/or Svi and try to move Blake for expirings at this point, neither Sekou or Svi are his guys, so I don't expect them to be on the roster next season.
Lots and lots of players have had injuries and retained a good amount of the athleticism. I think of Zach Lavine with his ACL and he still looks like he is one of the best leapers in the game. Now I know it not as simple as "because one player can so can another". types of injuries, age, genetics, how well an athlete takes care of himself, personal life, and so on. lots of variables. I wanna believe this is mostly a motivation thing. the mind is not given it's due in regards to how it effects a players performance/value on these boards IMHO.
for example you take a star player on a loosing team who has all the physical tools to be a great defender but they are not. going into practice facilities where the mood is lethargic, loosing game after game, its wears on a guy. especially when they were "the guy", getting paid that way and others (younger, faster) are getting the touches and minutes. I feel like he is going to be a buy low guy who could surprise a lot of people if he is given the right opportunity ... right change of scenery.

We're 30th in the NBA offensively without Love. He's back this week. The sad state of affairs is the Cavs still need him.MoneyTalks41890 wrote:Blake for Love saves the Cavs money in year three but they would have to be pretty sure that Love is unmovable and I don’t think that’s true. He’s a bad contract but he’s not reliant on athleticism and washed like Blake.

No take backs.
It works for Miami. They took on these contracts to have a go for a solid PF this coming off-season but he resigned and so did all the major free agents.
Griffin allows them to have a large contract come off the books for the 2022 free agent hunting off-season. Or trade a large expiring next year.
I imagine Miami could squeeze a pick out of it too. They also get a couple nice 3 shooters. An area they need help in right now.
The Heat have to pay Duncan Robinson this coming summer and Nunn if they keep him. They aren’t going to be a player in 2022 FA.

Re: Blake Griffin to sit out - anyone interested?
No one is trading for Griffin at this point. They know the Pistons are going to have to buy him out. Teams are going to sit back and wait. Why have that crappy contract on your books when you could just lobby for him to join you for two million? Last thing Detroit should have done was sat him. It killed any trade leverage they had on him, albeit it probably wasn’t much.

Why? Makes zero sense. What could possibly be the reason Sac does this? It’s missing draft assets (plural).

This was the point i was going to make, for a player that rose to stardome based on his dunks and athleticism, it appears he has lost every bit of it. I dont hink anyone would acquire him with the intent of him helping them win.

Have you watched Blake since his Clippers days?

Re: Blake Griffin to sit out - anyone interested?
The Pistons can quietly buy him out this summer after he picks up that option. Maybe they can save a few million and then Blake can sign a vet min deal with a Western team. I think that's the only realistic outcome here. It's not a Drummond situation where the player actually believes he's worth a max deal so bird rights aren't as important in this case.

Blake's had so many injuries with that knee. He lost his athleticism a while ago but was still able to make AllNBA rejuvenating his jumper. Now that's gone as well after a few surgeries I'm assuming hes lost his lift there as well effecting it.

Yes, I've watched him plenty--when he plays. He's shot. Don't mistake volume for true production. No one touches him with that contract.
Last year was the best year of his career, but dude's going to get bought out or traded for peanuts?!? Just Lolzzzzzzz. Bias much?

Re: Blake Griffin to sit out - anyone interested?
Blake looked robotic to start the year. He's been sort of playing himself back into shape and started to look more fluid recently. Obviously not the old blake, but passing better, making the occasional post move, drawing charged on D. The unfortunate part is that as soon as he starts rounding into form, you know the clock is just ticking until the next injury. Still, I think a lot of teams will be looking at him if/when he gets bought out. He can't handle high minutes and high usage anymore, but he might be able to have a second life as a vet role player.

I can't imagine any team wanting him unless they are able to move worse contract.
