I think I'm voting lose lose. And I love both sides of the deal.

Re: Woj: Powell for Trent, Hood
i don't love this one for either side.
From TOR's perspective, if your going into the $20MM range for this level of player, i'd prefer to pay Powell. Or I'd prefer someone cost controlled and/or picks.
From POR's perspective, your going to have $80MM tied up in 3 guards below 6-3. I would have prefered to move trent for a wing with size. In the short term I guess if you weren't going to pay Trent, and couldn't justify trading him for a downgrade with Dame, then the short term upgrade to Powell makes some sense.
But I really don't like this for Toronto. The formula to winning isn't paying average to above average starters $20MM per year (and they will have 3 in that range with FVV and OG along with Trent) and if your going there, why not just keep Powell.

IDK. Has Powell given any indication where he wants to be?? And POR might finally be ready to trade CJ.
The other + for the Raps is cap hold. This opens up about 20ish mill in cap space for the Raps ( i think a bit more) while Powell's cap hold wouldve taken it all. Raps are able to get a FA, re-sign Trent and operate as an over the cap team.
How would we sign a FA with cap space and then operate over the cap?

Do you think Trent gets that in free agency? I think part of the appeal is having a much lower cap hold that gives you the option to sign a free agent and then re-sign Trent. With Norm, it was one or the other.

No idea on what Toronto's space will look like in a few hours, but Trent can be his small cap hold until signed. So, *made up numbers as I'm feeling lazy* Gary Trent can stay with full rights for a cap hold of say 3m, Toronto uses up space, and then because Toronto kept that 3m space, they can sign Gary Trent for a big contract using his Bird Rights.

Man, in a league where vucevic gets 2 lightly protected firsts and a large expiring this seems light for powell, who is basically the perfect role guy for any playoff team and having his best year

I like Trents cap hold short term and potential long term. Blazers must be looking at potentially dealing Mccollum in off-season for frontcourt help.

Guess it matters what Trent gets paid but like this for toronto more right now. Not entirely sure what Powell adds to the backcourt and he's a weird valuation to begin with.

No, I get that, I was just questioning being able to operate as an "over the cap" team where we could use the MLE.

Didn't you propose a trade where the Nets sent 3 2nds for Powell? I'd much rather take Trent over that package

Im sure there's some NBA definition of what operating as an over the cap team means. I just meant they'd be over the cap tho, lol

Re: Woj: Powell for Trent, Hood
As I said yesterday;
I don't want to be the team that pays Powell 4/100 or whatever he ends up with but I am more than happy for another team to pay Norm who is a great guy.
The return is fine, more than anything it saved the Raptors from themselves.

That is the multimillion dollar question;
If Trent works in the system and you can keep him for reasonable coin, awesome.
If not, at least his cap hold is tiny.

Portland in the death throes. Going to try and be OKC this summer when they trade off the whole roster.

Something not being talked about now but will be in about an hour when Kyle Kowry is still a Raptor....is the fact that the Raptors didn't have e the Cap room to re-sign both Powell and Lowry. Keeping then both meant at least 1 of then were going to walk for nothing. With this deal for Trent and his tiny $2mill cap hild the Raptors now have the ability to re-sign Lowry to his 2/50 he requested.
So basically you get Lowry + Trent vs having just Lowry or Norm. You couldn't have both.
Big W for the Raptors.

Re: Woj: Powell for Trent, Hood
I had Powell and GTJ worth a late 1st, so swapping them made sense value wise.
More likely a rental for Portland unless they move around some salary. GTJ likely gets a Beasley like contract as a RFA.

ya, that doesnt make sense. Trent will only get paid like 5 mill less than Powell. The cap hold is irrelevant as the Raps had both Lowry and Powell's bird rights. If the Raps couldnt afford Lowry and Powell then they cant afford Lowry and Trent Jr
