The Raps value getting further under tax apron to sign more immediate depth comparatively when you look at they're likely giving up the 23rd pick in draft for the 33rd pick. I think it s fair deal.

BBref must not be up to date then, has them listed at $102,419,664...

They don’t have any of the dead salary contracts like Aminu or Hutchinson. The Spurs were $11m over the cap before this Dragic trade. Basketball Reference isn’t great on accuracy on contracts right now. It’s pretty much Spotrac only since Pincus left Basketball Insiders and Keith Smith joined Spotrac and stopped doing his salary sheets.

I agree.

If a post is going to lean mostly towards player stats rather than contracts, then Basketball Reference. Spotrac when accuracy on contracts is going to be highly important.

I used to compare Basketball Reference, Basketball Insiders and Spotrac against each other. Now I hardly ever go to Basketball Insiders.

If Eubanks turns out to be a better than average starting center in the next 2-3 years the deal will be *fair* but there's still a pretty giant sized hole with their backup guards, and if you looking at how many minutes FVV and Trent are playing, I'd argue a more urgent one. They should've let the Spurs keep that Pistons second an pushed for a guard.

Too much for a Young rental. A low/mid first is worth a good bit more than a high second.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Raps need a follow up deal.

Siakam / Precious / Boucher / Birch / Eubanks / Barnes / Thaddeus / OG / Yuta

Just a LOT of front court players.

They get under the tax, sweet deal for raps. Goran to the Mavs can now happen. LOL.

To me this looks like the first part of a 2-part move where the Raptors needed a bit of cap space to make the 2nd part happen. Reserving judgment for them until the deadline.

Eubanks wouldn't start over Siakam, Anunoby or Barnes.

I like this trade. We move back 12 picks in the draft and get a player who a) wants to play for us and b) fills a need.

I like Thad as a fit on the Raps this season and potentially beyond if he wants to stay;
I don't love moving back in the draft 8 - 12 spots but Masai has generally been pretty strong at identifying talent.

Thad comes in and can spell some relief for the starters;
I have zero opinion on Eubanks other than his Wikipedia picture looks like it was taken off the side of a milk carton.

Overall - Meh

It's OK for the Raptors. A couple of other factors
1. It gives them close to $4M under the tax line to use on the buy-out market, and they still have $3.1M of the MLE unused
2. If they take Eubanks into their TPE, they have a $5.3M TPE from this deal

Also, the day isn't over
3. If they do move Boucher later today to a team that needs a PF, they may be end up with a TPE of around $12M
4. Young is a good salary match for a bench G if they make another move

But if nothing else happens today, that leaves them with a dozen (!) players who are 6'8" or so with long arms, and Point SIakam and Scottie are their backups at the guard positions
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

The deal itself is fine in terms of fit.
Young is solid fit and fits the philosophy of the team.

A potential TPE is nice considering we have some room now but as of July 1st we will have essentially moved down 8 - 14 spots in the draft for Eubanks which is where it goes a little sideways for me.

I was promised that we play positionless basketball now.
No reason why we cant roll with a Precious / Eubanks back-court :D

Value here is pretty rough for Toronto. Not awful, but definitely shows Goran is just a big bad salary that no one was really lining up for.

This might be a move with the playoffs in mind.

Some big bangers to throw against Embid instead of Birch or Precious or OG

Why did they do this trade instead of using the first elsewhere and just hoping you win the buyout race!?
