dEPM is one statistic though. I like to use multiple data points when assessing players.

Got it. I was just sharing one that you hadn't. I like EPM, but there does seem to be a bunching effect with multiple teammates in the same range. Not sure if that's a bug or a feature. Defensive metrics are fuzzy, but I do tend to notice the highly rated players without another teammate in their range. Seems like there might be something there, but I haven't taken the time to drill down.

I do notice the highly rated players

When I browsed the dEPM list it reflected my eye test well.

That was an ugly edit on my part. So nice I said it twice!

Garland and either Strus or Okoro (works as two separate deals so whichever is needed)
for
HerbJ, Murray
maybe #7? Don't think it is needed really.

For CLE, bigger pg and great wing defense it needs.
Murray/Mitchell/HJones/Allen/Mobley

For NO, playmaker that can get more out of team.
Garland/CJ/Murphy/Zion/Missi

Orlando: Suggs, da Silva, 2025 1st, 2027 1st, 2029 1st

Nets: Johnson, Clowney, 2025 Nets pick, 2027 Knicks pick

Pelicans: Murray, Missi, Jones, and New Orleans 2025 pick (plus okoro)

Ridiculous overpay. Im not even giving up Suggs for Garland. Yes orlando needs a PG but not trading one of the best perimeter defenders for one of the worse. We all see in the PO how much of a defensive cone he is. Thats why players attack him and say cavs better without him.

Orlando fans have been pretty consistent in the type of moves they want to see. They’re not looking to make a big splash or shake up the core roster—instead, they prefer to package their lesser assets to add a solid rotation guard rather than take a big swing for an All-Star.

Thats why we have all our picks. Leverage that with "lesser assets" gets you a quality player. Also after watching these playoffs, Darius Garland all star title really doesn't pull much. Id take Derrick White every day (non "all star") over Garland if given the option.

DowJones wrote:Cleveland doesn’t need to make any dramatic moves. They won 64 games with a core five aged 23, 25, 26, 27, and 28. With the East likely to be weaker next season, the focus should be on continued player development this summer—just like the progress they made last year.

If a team wants Garland and Cleveland can get real value in return, I'm open to the idea. But so far, all I see on this message board are "buy low" proposals for a 25-year-old, two-time All-Star point guard who just averaged 21 points and 7 assists with shooting splits of 47/40/88.

Yeah, that's where I am. No Tatum and potentially no Giannis in the East next year means Cleveland and New York are the conference favorites. Why not just run it back and use this as a walk before you run year and hopefully grow to be even tougher in the playoffs next season?

You seem to be overlooking Murray's recovery from Achilles tear injury, which would have him out until the end of next season and may have a significant drop in play. So contending Cavs wouldn’t be interested in that.

Pels should definitely be interested in Garland, but as a small guard he needs a POA defender next to him, and/or a high level defensive bigs. So trading Herb in a package for Garland doesn't add up. I do think there is some kind of 3 team deal to make it work, though.

Love Garland, but as a biased Magic fan I would not trade Suggs straight up for Garland. Including 3 firsts is wild

Is there a 3 way where Cleveland trades Garland for Derrick White and Boston gets Garland but drops a bunch of salary?

I love the idea of Suggs as a cavs fan but looking into the fact that he's averaged just over 40 games a year his first 4 years in the league and
has a bum knee now i wouldn't touch him. For the sake of Magic fans i hope he's healthy going forward he is a big piece for the Magic team.

The 2 owners would never make deals with each other as they are rivals in their real life businesses and HATE each other. Ishbia said on Simmon's podcast that he won't make trades with CLV when he got the team. Which is too bad as I think a Booker for Garland+Jared Allen deal makes a ton of sense for both teams.

I think the move is a straight swap of Suggs for Garland. Fixes both team's biggest issue in one move.

Garland is very good but a defensive liability, he doesn't fit at all with what Boston wants.
