I think I like it more for the Wizards because the objective is clearer, add Vets, clear money. However, Pelicans added 2 more rotation pieces- Saddiq Bey is probably a bit under talked about in this deal as well coming back from missing last year with an injury and gives them another fringe starter on the wing.

Pretty much agree with this. CJ has been great, but he’s not getting better. Cashing in for a much younger version of him makes sense.

Brutal deal for the Pelicans IMO. Worse player, worse contract.

Love it for the Wizards.

Trading the third pick doesn't always work out well for Philly.

I do not mind this for the Pelicans. Poole is a younger version of what CJ provides on the court. Bey is a cheap bench wing if healthy. #40 can be used to move up from #23 if not added to #23 to move up from #7. The Pelicans get wiggle room on the tax this year when cap space is at a premium and they have no use for 26-27 cap space anyhow as lots of team have $$$$ and Pelicans have to greatly overpay to get free agents.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that the Magic constituted the entirety of the market for Simons, Poole, and CJ, and once they traded for Bane, it was clear their teams would have to get created. It reminds me of Wall for Westbrook tbh.

That's when they trade up from 3. If they trade back it reverses and becomes amazing. Duh

I think it could signal that Wash could be looking at Fears if Ace doesn’t fall, with CJ as a better and expiring vet for a year.

Well, they have 2 1st round picks from lst year in Carrington and AJ Johnson that both play that scoring combo guard slot that Poole did and Fears might so not sure it signals that. Hope not, Fears isn't in my top 6.

theBigLip wrote:...That being said, he hasn’t been the same since getting punched by Draymond.

Actually last year he looked almost exactly like he did that one year in GS, a bit less rebounding, a bit more playmaking, more aggressive on defense, but pretty much the same guy. Unlike 2 years ago where for most of the year, he was the most negative player in the NBA not nicknamed Scoot.

Poole is better than C.J., at worst equal.

Feels like Washington is collecting expiring contracts to tempt the overloaded $ teams. Maybe more coming.

I’m indifferent to this trade.
One side went for expiring the other went for the talent (assuming bey recovers on track and Poole is statistically better than CJ this season)

It’s the kind of moves around the margin that we expect / like at the end of free agency , not pre draft where we want blockbuster.

Just listened to the Wizards locked on podcast. They really though they could get 2 1sts for Poole after the Bane trade and shocked they didn't get at least one. I don't think a lot of Wizard fans viewed Poole as a bad contract anymore.

Nor should they. He is a better player than C.J., younger and under team control for an additional year.

It's possible Poole regresses, but typically 25-26 year olds don't regress when going to a better basketball situation.

The only nuance I can think of to make this make sense is that Poole will be okay coming off the bench and Pels felt CJ wouldn't accept that role?

Feels weird man.

Hopefully Poole has matured a bit since the Draymond thing. Pels have enough drama already.
