Brooklyn wants an asset of some kind for Paul Millsap, whether it’s another veteran who can help them win now or a future second-round pick, I’m told. The Nets hit on drafting Kessler Edwards in the second round of the draft, and he’s a name to watch for his two-way deal being converted into a standard NBA contract following the trade deadline and buyout market.

Keep an eye on Bruce Brown as a trade chip too. His role and minutes have fluctuated at times with Brooklyn this season. Jevon Carter is also another name to watch. He’s fallen out of Brooklyn’s rotation, and he’s available on the trade market.

The Nets have gotten calls on Joe Harris and Nicolas Claxton, but I don’t expect those guys to be moved, unless they’re packaged for a star or really high-caliber starter.

...

Scotto: Eric Gordon’s value hasn’t been this high in years after he’s had multiple injury-plagued seasons. The Cavaliers have kept tabs on Gordon, Caris LeVert, Terrence Ross, among shooting guards on the trade market, I’ve heard. The Cavaliers also like Joe Harris from afar, but it would take a star for Harris to be included in any package from Brooklyn’s perspective.

Lakers and Nets could possibly swap minimum deals here, if Brooklyn wants one Ellington or Bazemore for backcourt insurance. Lakers could use the idea of a stretch 4 so the bench units don't get killed on the defensive rebounds.

Jake Fischer adding smoke to the Wood for Duncan Robinson+ fire.

Since I think the Heat can only guarantee a single pick going out, I think a third teams needs to get roped in that actually wants Robinson to send Houston a shorter contract.

Thoughts include:
Mavs for Powell
Nets for Harris+a small something
Philly for Green and Niang

How much/long is Robinsons contact? Could there be something around Clarkson or Ingles or do they not match up?

Are we even certain Robinson is positive value? The deal made me a bit queasy at the time and if he's not absolutely scorching the nets, he's quite useless.

I don't think it's a positive deal, no, but he is a useful player, so a team trying to win now may bite the bullet using a shorter negative contract to match

I wouldn't trade Robinson for Wood straight up. PJ Tucker and Adebayo are the Heat's front court. The team has a deep bench already and excellent shooting off the bench. Robinson is a great shooter and cuts well. His defensive play has improved with Tucker, Butler, and Lowry's tutelage. In any case, I don't see where Wood fits in. He doesn't move Tucker or Bam to the bench. That's for sure, and Wood does want to start, so I don't see how it works out.

I think you get enough skill on offense from Wood and Bam that you can slide Jimmy and PJ up a position really easily

Hmm, that’s a pretty good chunk of change, but I think I’d still consider him in Utah.

I think he's basically another Bertans but shorter... so no that's not a positive contract

Spo addressed how Duncan has improved since Bam's return (around 2:08) after the game:

"There's a lot of other good things going on, even when he's missing."

They've been building this team for a couple years now. There has been a ton of sacrifice. I don't see the team breaking that up for marginal improvement. Who knows what Pat Riley is going to do though? I confess I do not. ;-)

What about a pick swap with a team like Clev. I think Brooklyn and Milw have a good chance to pass Clev in the standings. So likely a 6-9 spot jump up from the Suns pick.

I've been willing to trade Kenrich for apparently less than Presti is, but I don't think that's enough value. I think Cleveland's 1st (currently 25) and we talk about whether or which 2nd(s) OKC kicks back.

I'm buying Presti is using the media to try and drive up the price but if he gets a first for Kenrich without giving up more I'll be eating crow. Seems excessive.

Well I think it's just confirmation of what we already know, they aren't interested in moving him.

They have a million picks, Kenrich is a desirable 3/D archetype and isn't complaining about being in OKC, it's a sellers market. I think they aren't particularly interested in moving him but will in the event of an overpay.

Presti never speak to the media though. I think sometimes Woj has some ideas about what OKC is willing to do but that's it. Jake Fischer already told a crazy number of false rumors about OKC so he clearly isn't the guy Presti is speaking to.

That being said, I think a FRP is the only way OKC moves Kenrich right now (or for a bigger package). Presti loves Kenrich and Kenrich loves being in OKC somehow. He has a pretty big influence on our young players and don't think Presti cares about a couple of 2nds for a player that is useful to our organisation.

Cleveland would probably offer that if they don't use the 1st for some other purpose.

BTW, Cleveland got their DPE for Ricky Rubio...

The Cavs are only a little more than $3.5m under the tax, so filling the $8.9m exception and staying out of the tax would probably involve trading Sexton or Osman for higher-end guys. (Then their salary turns into a TPE.) The Cavs already have a TPE from the Javale McGee trade that covers less than $4.2m contracts, but this would be useful for a small handful of guys in the $5m range where you can swap them for a veteran minimum salary.

Potential guards (last year of their contract, < $9m salary) are Tyus Jones, Dennis Schroder, Delon Wright, possibly Lonnie Walker (not sure rookie contracts with QOs apply).

Can also be used in the buyout market, so the Cavs might be able to outbid some other teams.

Curious, are there any issues that could come up if the Cavs trade Rubio, now that they got the DPE? Seems like double dipping if they can use the 8.9m and also trade the contract.
