Sweet, gives McNair more time to ponder trades and the situation.

Annoys the Hawks tying up the cap for a bit too.

I found this in the CBA on it. It looks like its two days and not 48 hours. I have no idea what the Hawks will do if they have 18 to 20 million in cap to use. Maybe they sign Skal and sit on the rest in case a trade comes.

If, within two (2) days from the date it receives an Offer Sheet, the ROFR Team gives to the Restricted Free Agent a “First Refusal Exercise Notice” substantially in the form of Exhibit H annexed hereto, then, subject to Section 5(k) below, such Restricted Free Agent and the ROFR Team shall be deemed to have entered into a Player Contract containing all the Principal Terms (but not any terms other than the Principal Terms) included in the Uniform Player Contract attached to the Offer Sheet (except that if the Contract contains an Exhibit 6, such Exhibit 6 shall be deemed deleted). Such Contract may not thereafter be amended in any manner for a period of one (1) year.

I think it annoys fans more than it does teams but we project our annoyance on them  I imagine McNair is trying to figure something out with Bogdan, Hield, and Haliburton who are all considered starting level players.

It definitely is not 48 hours from when it was submitted. But just to make this worse and less clear, in my foggy memory I thought it was until the NBA office closed at like 5 or 6 or 8pm est? So, before 11:59.

Now, I could be wrong. Or it could have changed.

Something I read yesterday indicated the end of business day at 5. I don't know but that would make sense. Then again, maybe the league has several people in the office 24/7 to receive faxes during free agency.

I don't have all the numbers in front of me, but I think they still have it. Everyone they signed this offseason has a team option for next year, and they were projecting to be at a point where they could max one guy, and then still have $15-20m in cap space left. In this case, they're just committing that cap space now to Bam's cap hold, and they'll still have enough room for one max.

This report says something different.

However, the Heat’s salary cap situation complicated the team’s decision. Miami has been focused on preserving as much cap room as possible for the 2021 offseason, and a new deal for Adebayo will increase his cap charge from a hold worth about $15MM to a new salary worth at least $28MM (f he gets the max), eliminating the possibility of a max-salary slot for a free agent.

Butler - $36m
Bam - $28m
Herro - $4m
Achiuwa - $2.9m
Okpala - $1.8m
Ryan Anderson - $5.2m - dead money
Total guaranteed - $77.9m

Cap holds
Nunn - $2.1m
Robinson - $2.1m
5 minimum roster holds - $4.6m roughly
Total holds - $8.8m

Total committed - $86.7m roughly

Cap at $111m, and they have almost $25m in cap space, and would need $33.3m, so about $8m more. So, a little short, but could turn it into a S&T with guys like Herro/Achiuwa going back (or dealt for future picks) and something aorund Nunn/Robinson dealt for future picks.

All fudgible here, but it's pretty well lined up that Riley can make it happen. His only salary in the way is REALLY GOOD SALARY. But yeah, that Ryan Anderson dead money sucks.

That Riley could possibly finagle something if need be is what the report said in the next paragraph. Riley doing Riley things and getting his ducks all in a row.

This is like the first time in 10 years I have read something that John Hollinger liked a lot about the Hawks.
John Hollinger of The Athletic cites the Hawks as the team that did the most to improve. Atlanta won’t know until later today if Sacramento will match its four-year, $72MM offer sheet to Bogdan Bogdanovic, but the Hawks already stocked their roster with free agent signings Danilo Gallinari, Rajon Rondo and Kris Dunn. Hollinger sees Atlanta as a legitimate playoff threat and suggests the team may be looking to trade John Collins for a starting small forward.

Guy didn't write from 2013-2019 since he worked for the Grizzlies

Otherwise, it's just hard since even a great Atlanta move, like drafting Trae Young, is still overshadowed by the fact that you could have had Luka Donkic. Nothing shameful at all! Just, maybe could have been better! Though that could still change with however the rest of their careers head.

But yeah, it was really good offseason for y'all. Added a lot of vet talent to help push the kids.

I think he's just looking at the roster and seeing a SF upgrade as the most likely, but I've looked around the league and I'm having a hard time finding a SF to target in a trade.

He is just throwing things against the wall with the Collins talk. I think the Gallinari signing took everyone by surprise. Tightening up the guards with Rondo and Dunn added some icing to the cake.
