I honestly don't know why the Wolves would trade Edwards for Simmons. Edwards was so amazing for a 19 year old in the NBA, I wouldn't be surprised if after one more season under his belt he is better than Simmons. I think the trade that makes sense that for some reason is not happening is one based around D'Lo.
I agree. I don't know if I'd trade Edwards for any players in the league right now. Maybe just a handful.
I've seen edwards play quit a bit especially with towns and russell out of the lineup. He chucked a lot of shots, a lot of contested shots. No efficient. He's a rookie. We get it. Defense was lacking. When KAT got back in the lineup, minnesota offense was better. But the defense still sucked. So are timberwolves gonna to be a slightly better offensive version of Sacromento with KAT/Edwards/Russell cause neither of those 3 play much defense. That's why they are after Simmons. It's clear as day.
So does Edwards put up numbers like Wiggins in Minnesota. Lot of empty stats? Will he improve his handles more? Only time will tell. But to call him untouchable is a long stretch. You can tell a guy like Luka was the real deal his rookie season. I don't know what to expect of Edwards in year 2. We will see. There just isn't enough ball to go around with Rusell, KAT and Edwards if they are all healthy. And sixers do not want Russell, a notorious chucker who plays the worst defense of those 3 there.
It doesn’t matter if a fan called Edwards untouchable (which I didn’t see). It matters that Gersson Rosas said that Edwards was off the table. And to a lesser extent, it matters that a national correspondent said that trading Edwards for Simmons would be “irresponsible.”
I try to follow many of the national podcasts, and I see so much there that differs from what the bulk of the posts here on the trade board. We see Edwards trades. We see many SAC trades with Fox and Halliburton, even if their GM said their not available. Brian Windhorst thinks “if Simmons was offered straight up for CJ McCollum, I’m not so sure POR wouldn’t turn it down.” Tim Bontemps said that HOU didn’t want Simmons (plus other assets) in a Harden deal because Ben’s lack of shooting makes him too hard to build around. Joe Lacob said, “a Simmons trade doesn’t fit what we are doing.” Lots of fan posts here does not mean “29 actual GM’s” want to trade for Simmons, and it is often repeated nationally that the market for Simmons is very small.
The national sources I listen to are very popular, so I don’t know if the disconnect is between not hearing the news, or not wanting to believe it. I understand that with so many trade board posts, Simmons’ purported value here has been anchored very highly. I also know, “it only takes one,” GM to give a big return for Ben, so there is hope for PHI fans, even as many poopoo the value of so many players on other teams. But when I read all these trades posted here that simply ignore the actual team saying, “we’re not doing that,” I shake my head and wonder how real the RealGM thread is on Simmons at this point.
