Unfortunately that is exactly the case. Although our entire conversation over IM regarding eliminating the protections on the first 2 years of the pick spoke of nothing but cash compensation after I posted the deal he emailed me saying he wants my second rounder this year. He feels that because he is helping me facilitate this trade he should get something of value. I disagree because as he is not taking on any contracts or giving himself he shouldn't deserve anything of real value. In my opinion he is doing nothing more than using white out on a couple sentances and his rights to the pick will not be affected in any way shape or form. Because of such a vast but understandable difference of opinion I am not going to be able to get Utah to give up the protections and so as far as I am concerned this deal has been forced back to the drawing board if not killed for the second time.

Oh I have been forced to speak up once again! and how!

Yes, Knickfan and I did discuss the possiblity of taking the protection off the pick for this year infact I was the one who offered such a suggestion. BUT we never agreed upon on anything on IM. He offered 3 million from the Bastard Dolan's money and I didn't committ to it. I had to go offline and I suggested that he emails me if his dea doesn't go through and he needs to work out the picks. That was the extent of our conversation. I didn't agree (nor disagree) to his 3 million compensation on IM. And he will agree to that.

I came back on later and saw that he had posted what he had offered me, but I didn't want that sort of compensation (cash doesn't really matter in this game where as a pick does) and I declined to accept it. I even went as far as saying that I am not taking advantage of his situation, I am just trying to make a deal thats beneficial for me and my franchise.

I never accused you of doing anything underhanded but I was serious about the offer of cash and when you didn't say anything against it (you didn't sign off right away) I assumed everything was on the up and up.

Furthermore, while you may not admit to trying to take advantage of the sitatution and are not acting maliciously in any way you are in fact trying to take advantage of the situation. You're not giving up anything of value. You're not being forced to take on a player you don't want. You're not being forced to push back when you'll get my pick because you're going to recieve exactly the same pick you would have recieved anyway. You are not being asked to do anything that could possible justify recieving anything of any value. Period. Somehow you think the act of deleting a couple lines of meaningless text is worth something of substance but I think you are absolutely nuts if you do.

LOL.. So taking off 2 yers of protection isn't worth anything? great! Just becuase the protection is there, it could seriously hamper any current or future deals the Knicks try to make. And by removing it, it could help them make a deal that could imrpove their team substatnially. And you think thats not worth anything?

Alright, every deal before this post is accepted except for the NYK/Philly deal. That is still under review.

You're right. It is worth something. I would be generous to say it was worth $1 million dollars. But because money doesn't really have any affect on the game and because I don't like Dolan I decided to give you the $3 million dollar max.

I would have loved to make this deal but I don't love it enough to give away something useful to someone who doesn't give up anything to get it. I am more than happy to keep the top 5 pick AND my second rounder if the deal doesn't happen.

After consulting with a few people, the NYK/Philly deal is cancelled. You can not trade a pick twice with different protections regardless of the situation. All other trades are approved.

Unfortunately I agree. Utah was just impossible to negotiate with so the protections cannot be removed and the trade cannot be made.

The New Orleans Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies have reached a trade agreement

New Orleans sends:
Carlos Arroyo $4,000,000
DJ Strawberry $427,163
Mario West $427,163
NO 2008 First round pick
NO 2009 First round pick (top 20 protected)

Memphis sends:
Shane Battier $5,883,600

Salaries Work:
NO Outgoing = $4,854,326 * 1.25 + 100,000 = $6,167,907 which is less than Shane Battier's salary

NO Hornets accept and are excited about the prospect of seeing him in action.

The Knicks will like to announce that they have made a blockbuster trade:

The New York Knicks trade:
Ben Wallace $15,500,000
Mardy Collins $932,760

for

The Indiana Pacers trade:
Peja Stojakovic $11,664,000
Bobby Jackson $5,670,000

While it sucks to lose Collins and Wallace my team really needs a consistant long range shooter. Peja is a huge upgrade at small foward and the perfect player for this team. His addition will spread the floor for Arenas and Curry.

Blockbuster maybe 5 years ago :P

Trade Accepted.

Wallace, although older and useless now, has a shorter deal than Stojakovic and I get out of Bobby Jackson deal (although not that bad) plus I get a young guard

The Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons have agreed to a deal.

Pistons trade Stromile Swift (5,800,000) and Gerald Green (1,440,960) to Washington for Steve Blake (4,250,000) and Steven Hunter (3,638,600).

Pistons outgoing: 7,240,960
Pistons incoming: 7,888,600

(Shouldn't need to show the math, it obviously will work)

Washington accepts. This is purely a money-saving deal for us. Not only do we save 600k immediately which gives us some breathing room from the luxury tax, but we also save a couple years.
