I don't mean to repeat, just state our motives IMHO once more as I understand them because it is a complicated deal.
1. Last season, before Collison went down over halfway through and combo guard McCallum had to be relied upon as our starting pg, our usual starting lineup was one of the best units in the league and we had a poor bench http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/102773/theres-a-way-the-kings-can-get-better-now. Leading some Kings fans, and I'm guessing the FO to assume we could compete a little bit with actual periphery NBA players. Maybe more than the 2016-2018 Sixers.
2. Cousins and Gay have three years left. Cousins will likely be moved in his last year but many, like Duncan on realgm radio suggest stars now should be moved with two years left to get the best possible package. In order to get better periphery players the 2015 off season would have been the most opportune because in the coming years when the cap rises there is projected to be less quantity available for the dollar http://hoopshype.com/2015/07/19/the-great-big-myth-of-free-agency-2016/. So we believe we have a talented duo to build a quality team around and this might be the last opportune time before they would want out and we would have to acquire another duo as talented as Cousins/Gay again in another 5+ (?) years.
I understand questions about how the cap was acquired. I've asked myself if there were better methods. Maybe Matthews, who for some reason was our prime target, needed that 16 a year that stretching guys and trading guys wouldn't have got us there. There is some suggestion that we could have moved Nik with one or two of those contracts, which I'm guessing we might have tried? We tried to trade Nik mid season with zero reception. Would it have been better to stretch both and trade Nik, netting us two of the three players? But that would also encumber ~5 of cap for a number of years. Even with the rising cap that is still enough to possibly get a solid player each year. A lot of questions on this one

There has been a tendency to slam and not see our point of view when you read a lot of the national writers etc., and you genuinely have to ask if it was the Nuggets or any random team around our standings if the backlash for lack of a better word would be the same. Again, I'm speaking regardless of Chuck and PMOTT's reviews which seem to be thought out. It bothers me in the sense that I am an NBA fan and want to hear something other than the dumping on or mocking of my team when I listen to the podcasts etc. It doesn't mean they have to agree with the trade from our perspective, just be able to reasonably see how we may benefit and our motives
And RipPizzaGuy isn't wrong for wanting the season to start. We have a underrated roster and it should be fun.
Exactly. I was speaking on the general opinion, it seems like the popular thing to do is throw in a cheap shot.
We won 29 games with literally everything going wrong. Cousins sickness, collison missing half the season, 3 different coaches. We had absolutely no bench, sessions was terrible, our pf rotation was worst in the league and our team had no fit or direction.
Replacing sessions with rondo is a huge upgrade regardless how you feel about Rondo. I get people not liking him because he quit on the mavs, but he is not a dumb guy, he will play his a** off to get that last big contract. Belinelli is pretty much a best case scenario for Stauskas. The huge point of that is maybe stauskas is that guy in 4 or 5 years. Belly is a vet with title experience and should be a huge addition to this locker room and bench. I love belly at 6 probably my favorite signing. Koufas and Stein provide so much more than Thompson and Landry. The roster upgrade is undeniable. Caron butler is just another guy who brings a winning culture, no more JT, Sessions, and Derrick williams bone head losing mentality.
While I get giving up those picks looks bad, it was a good change for kings fans to see a gm who is actually willing to make some moves. Chances are we end up losing one pick and it was completely worth it.
As for people saying we should wait 2 more years for Cousins, at what point do you have to show your superstar your actually willing to pay for talent around him? It's been 5 years of under 30 win basketball and breeding a losing culture, If we win 40+ games that's a huge step in the right direction.
I think maybe we could have given a bit less in the trade but I trust vlade tried and there just wasn't anything out there. I haven't been so excited for an upcoming season since the early 2000's and that's huge for a city that needs it bad.

Okay fair enough. Wish you had made that a little more clear, because in the context of this thread it seemed out of place.
And I agree that some of the on-court changes give reason for some optimism in Sacramento. It will be curious to see if the players can truly block out all the off-court distractions and play to the talent. I think Cousins could wreck this league given the chance.
