Mavs traded for Miami Josh, not the Philly one. In Miami he shot 40% on open Catch & shoot 3s. So thats why the Mavs were fine with losin some shooting but adding a ton more defense

I love the trade for Dallas as Richardson is a perfect secondary ballhandler next to Luka. While offensively he is average to a tick above average at a lot of things - shooting, passing, playmaking, ball handling - he doesn't have any real weakness to his game. Defensively, he has the size and athleticism to defend the perimeter 3 positions.

For Philadelphia - I understand the logic behind the trade, but I really don't love it. Curry is an elite shooter, which is something their roster desperately needed, and he is under team control for 3 years for slightly below the full mid level, which gives him value in a future trade. And I guess Richardson was expendable with Green coming in and was essentially in the final year of his contract. It just feels like the bought high and sold low on J-Rich. I also was excited to see Richardson/Green/Simmons/Harris on the floor together. Very switchable defensively with Embid as the backstop.

Overall, I would say Dallas won this trade, but not by a huge margin.

Seth Curry's 3 year RAPM: 58th in the NBA

He's also an elite fit next to Simmons and on a good contract. We saw the incredible results pairing one of the best shooters in the league in Redick with Embiid, and now we get a chance to do it again with Curry. We were never going to re-sign Richardson after the season. I wanted us to sign Curry a few years ago - dude's underrated.

All of this. Im really shocked at how negative some are viewing this for Philly. With Ben, Embiid and Tobias, I didnt see any pathways for Richardson staying in Philly— he’s a poor roster fit and his likely salary demands would put them deep in the tax again. Getting an elite shooter on an awesome contract feels like a big win for them; he’s and Green are going to open things up and make life much easier for Embiid and Simmons.

As a Celtics fan, I hate this— Philly got much better yesterday IMO.

I think they'll be better than last year but still not remotely a real contender or anything. So then the problem becomes what's the long-term play here? Curry is 30 and more suited as a 6th man to me. Green is expiring, old, and not unlikely to already be washed up. Unless one of these young players turns into a real difference maker, the team is locked in as Simmons, Embiid, and a bunch of a role players.

I think I’m just much higher on your team than you. I absolutely see you as a real contender— why couldnt your team beat LA?

Always nice to see a deal that the board sees as a kinda obvious move for both sides actually happen. That's 2 of these in short order with this and the Paul trade.

Feels to me like Dallas valued Richardson as neutral salary filler. No intention to re-sign?

Morey should have absolutely walked away. And the “fit” doesn’t justify it, either, IMO. So obviously something else apparently did.

They are waiting on Giannis. If he wants to show up next year (admittedly, unlikely, but why not wait), they will have a capsheet that can accommodate him and sort the rest out later. If not, they can re-sign Richardson and whoever else.

Uh no. Dallas would not have traded Curry for 36 and Scott for instance. Seems pretty clear from Dallas' perspective -- they wanted a veteran wing defender and were willing to give up Curry if Terry got to them at 31. As soon as he did, they pulled the trigger.

Talk out of the Mavs seems to be that Terry is going to have an immediate chance at winning rotation minutes to replace Curry.

But make no mistake for Dallas the prize here is Richardson, not Tyler Bey--who might not even make the team.

If that’s the case, this is an awful trade for Philly unless Morey has something else up his sleeve

All players round Luka can shoot at ridiculous efficiency. Getting better athleticism and defense surely help. I still not content with the frontcourt depth, though. I don't know what to expect from KP. The Mavs actually need a starting caliber big who can block some shots.
