To be fair there was zero indication my Pistons were looking to move Plumlee.hugepatsfan wrote:Snakebites wrote:hugepatsfan wrote:Detroit fans on here owe a lot of us apologies haha
And why is that?
All offseason people have posted deals of "dumping" Plumlee for small assets (as opposed to giving them up) and cap space but got chewed out by Detroit fans saying that it would be a terrible move they'd never do. And well, well how the turntables have turned here....
(Also it was said in jest, please don't take it as confrontational haha)
There was nothing to suggest we desired cap space this off-season season, especially after landing the #1 pick and having 3 2nds in hand.
Our roster is very young and historically youth does not win in the NBA:
Hayes is 19
Stewart & Sekou are 20
Sirvydas is 21
Bey, Diallo & Lee are 22
Frank Jackson & Cook are 23
Josh Jackson is 24
10 dudes...plus our 4 picks...and all of them except Sekou acquired by this FO suggested that a holding pattern was likely given we will have significant cap space come July 2022.
Obvious move was to play the kids, give Grant another year in his expanded role, have Plumlee do his thing and then go shopping.
As we've seen with Weaver though nothing is obvious and he's going to do what he's going to do.
I'll wait and see before I pass judgement on the trade but with this move Detroit now has approx 18 mil to spend in free agency.
Is that enough to add significant help? We'll find out soon enough
