There was some smoke about Harden considering Portland on his list of teams last year, but I think that had to do with a personal connection to Neil Olshey and before this season that will likely end in them being one of the 7 worst teams in basketballjbk1234 wrote:K_chile22 wrote:Ok now it's's REALLY easy to get max spaceK_chile22 wrote:Portland could pretty easily get to max space after this
Yeah both the Wizards and Nets F.O. should be a little nervous here.

NOLA betting on making the playoffs? That pick is way too good. Guess NOLA FO also think the draft is weak but giving up a 5-13 pick and NAW for CJ is crazy.

Re: Shams: New Orleans sends Hart+picks to Portland for CJ McCollum
I believe what you're referring to is back in the Dwight Howard, aka Dwightmare days. Woj also used to always release news right after 1AM EST, because from what I understand it was right after ESPN finished filming the morning Sports Center.shrink wrote:loserX wrote:Still read this kind of thing as a clear shot at Shams. This week, on "Pundit Wars"!
Good point - one I missed. Woj has always been very prideful about being the best news breaker in basketball. Back when he worked for Yahoo, a superstar player (I forget who) was on the verge of making a big announcement, and big bucks ESPN sent out about a dozen insiders and personalities. Woj broke the story. Right after, he reportedly ran down the halls of the hotel where they were all staying, screaming at those “bleeping ESPN corporate bleeps,” about how he could scoop them all single-handedly!
He always had a vendetta against ESPN, but when Yahoo faltered, it made me sad that even Woj could be bought by Disney Corp. I still think though that he takes great pride in being the guy to break stories, and now that you mention it, I wonder if he had half this story and was waiting for it to become official before he announced it. Shams is really good, and Woj probably sees him as a threat - we all benefit if those two compete.

Hornets protections are in it's last year so if the pick doesn't convey it turns into two 2nds.
So worst case scenario for NOP is they miss the playoffs, pick lands 5-14 going to POR, and their 2nd going to CHA

Portland kicking in their forwards to do better with their guards is smart.
This is better than I thought they'd do so crow eating for me.
But thrilled for our Blazer fans and pretty meh for the Pels. They have a lot of offensive talent but that defense is going to be a challenge.

Win for Portland. There's like an 80% chance they get a lottery pick and expirings out of McCollum's huge contract and Nance? That's a win for a team in tear-down mode.
Wonder if our half of the NOLA pick would hold value to Portland now in a package for Nurkic

Not sure what NOP will do with Nance, having Valanciunas, Zion, Ingram, Jones, Hayes, Murphy III. Maybe try and flip him?

The Pacers need be blowing up Griffin's phone on Turner right now. Griffin might as well have a sign on his back that reads *will pay higher than sticker.*

We kept Jax over NAW and gave up a top 5 protected pick for CJ, Nance, and Snell. I’m good with this. This makes us a much better and more versatile team for one first and Hart. We needed another creator and a shooter plus some worthwhile vet bench players.

Feels like POR could've gotten more here. WTF are they doing long term?
I don't mind it for the Pels. With all their excess picks, they can afford to use them. Would've liked to see them keep Hart though.

I thought CJ would get more than you but I'm floored by the pick return. Imagine if it falls within the 5-8 range. Wow.Texas Chuck wrote:Portland kicking in their forwards to do better with their guards is smart.

This is an excellent example of how to tear it down, dump the money, get prospects and picks in a down year with star (Dame) injury and yet still start from .500 and be able to immediately improve next season.
I admire the sack and fortitude of the Portland management team and ownership to do this the right way.

Finally nailed one. I like the move a lot for both teams. People are sleeping on CJ. This is more than a grasp at a playoff spot for NOLA. CJ, Ingram, and a healthy Zion is a playoff team next season.

I'll say this, IF Nance can stay on the court, he's an underrated acquisition for the Pelicans.

Best part of this deal is no Tobias Harris, no Julius Randle, no Westbrook

It's also going to be no Damian Lillard real soon.

Re: Shams: New Orleans sends Hart+picks to Portland for CJ McCollum
Great deal for both teams IMO.
Pelicans tried to get THJ in the offseason, offered A LOT, and couldn't, they can't attract FAs, so they sent expiring for a good but overpaid starter in CJM and an OK starter/good bench player in Nance for expiring contracts, failing young player who needs a change of scenery and a high pick, if Pelicans don't make the PO, it's #9 or #10, which is pretty expensive for what they got, but they are out of options IMO.
Blazers got off CJM pricey contract (100/3, when he's more of 60/3 guy), cleared salary, and got a potentially very good pick.
