No.

How is it bad though?

If they waive him or keep him then Suns will pay $110m tax in 25-26 and $105m tax in 26-27. That's only if they add their draft picks and vet mins. So $215m in tax total next 2 seasons.

If the stretch waive him then Suns pay no tax in 25-26 while adding an MLE FA along with their draft picks. They effectively replace Beal with an FA or 2 FA using the MLE and drop out of the tax. In 26-27 they'd also be able to stay out of the tax. So $0 in tax next 2 seasons.

If those numbers are accurate then maybe they consider it but stretching $110m just sounds nuts when you say it out loud. That amount would be unprecedented.

Beal wanted Milwaukee at one point, no? So Beal for Lillard makes the most sense to me. I think Lillard + 10 is easier to move than Beal + 10.

Maybe Washington should do it for Poole and filler. That seems closer to the caliber of player that package is worth (not being sarcastic).

Do we expect Beal to work with Phoenix on a new location or since they’re advertising buying him out, just get his money?

But..

Grant and Vuc to Phoenix
Beal, Carter, 2029 first (worst of UTAH/CLE/Minn) to Portland
Ayton to Chicago

Feels better than stretching Beal for Phoenix.

Portland could even buy out Beal and just get the money off the books a year earlier than Grant.. Or trade Simons to highest bidder (meh) and just let Beal play out his contract.

Charlotte still has all of their ugly two year money so a deal could make sense and be pretty easy.. But their draft slot makes it feel less than ideal unless they would see Beal as a mentor for VJ or Tre and can play with either? I don’t think Beal sounds like a good mentor..

Keeping the Portland idea going for some reason.. Complicating it because I don’t want to send Grant to Minnesota..

Royce, Timelord, and 10 to Minnesota
Randle and Grant to Phoenix
Beal and 17 to Portland

Then trade Grayson for Gafford and bring Grant in as sixth man?

Feel like Minn owes 31 to someone? The players they get back are decent fits..

Minn trades up to draft CMB or Carter Bryant (or whoever) and trims some tax money for Naz/NAW.

Phoenix trades out to get Randle.

Portland gets another first round pick this year, trades Simons to highest bidder and waits until 2027-2028 to renegotiate Deni.

If I'm Beal, I'd probably just let them cut me and then hit the FA circuit. A lot more flexibility in where I can go when the other team doesn't have to send out $50M in salaries to match.

We all (fairly) love to dump on Beal but Beal off the bench on a vet min deal could be an insanely valuable pickup for a contender if he's bought in.

Yeah. The only flip side to that is he loses all control over where he plays at that point. At least if he’s traded, he knows he’s staying in that city for 24 months if he wants and not getting traded/moving his family.

And yeah, Beal even on an MLE deal is an entirely different player than Beal making 110 mil..

Why would Beal waive NTC to go to Utah?

From being the worst contract in the NBA to potentially the piece that decides the 2026 NBA champion lol. He could easily be the type of difference maker on the minimum that could make Denver the team to beat.

That response makes me feel like maybe Portland owes Minnesota the seconds and not the other way around..

Ya for sure agree. I would hope we could turn Reath and/or Kris into some SRP to send to MIN.

Beal could hang out until January then sign for the second half with whoever looks like contender. Maybe add player option for second year.
For five months, doesn’t even need to uproot his family which is big deal to him. Can live wherever he wants.

I do not think Smart+Middleton for Beal+10th pick works does it? Unless Middleton renegotiates next year deal since he has a PO?

1) I don't think PHX should use the only piece of real value they got from the KD deal to dump Beal without getting anything useful in return

2) Middleton + Smart make about $1M more than Beal, which makes things pretty complicated.

I just cant really get behind getting one objectively good piece in the KD deal (#10) to just turn around and use it to dump Beal.

Agreed 100%, especially since they had to eat Green to get the pick
