We can still talk what goes into Gafford/PJ/Klay for Joel type deals if Philly doesn’t want their load manage mvp level player..

Offensively, I think they should be fine even if the fit is a bit awkward. Defensively it will be a challenge. Embiid isn't really a force on that end anymore and the rest of the starting five all have their weaknesses on that end. Probably going to have to stagger Maxey/VJ/Brown/Bron and play Wade and Barlow a lot.
I'd like to see them trade for a Gafford type to start when Embiid is load-managing.

Feels like a Philon + 1st(s) type deal, and im not sure either side goes for it. Dallas is in (or should be in) asset accumulation mode, but 3 years of cap killing is a lot, and they may have hopes that the Lakers burn out and they can mend ties with Luka. I think this makes Philly better and far more likely to contend, but they'll see it as a downgrade to a higher floor/lower ceiling, even if that ceiling is only hypothetical, and they'll have no assets left.

I foresee an AD/Embiid swap tbh with Philly adding draft capital.
This will end badly

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Does that raise or lower their injury risk?

Was really just a side comment / joke but..
Gafford, Lively, PJ, Klay for Joel, Philon, Broome and push for a good amount of draft capital?
Agree it kills Dallas’ books through Flagg’s rookie deal, but 40 games of Joel/Kyrie likely helps Flagg get to the play-in.. and it’s not like a tax team the next few years - just no dreams of free agency. Adding a decent prospect in Philon and whatever other future draft capital..
And Philly paying to get worse, but getting Lively back gives them the hope of a young/true defensive anchor by playoff time..

I'm not sure it matters.

Thats the way Dallas would have to see it. Theyre not contending throughout Flagg's rookie deal and not getting play in free agency, even if you think the odds of landing Luka or whoever is low. Maybe trade Kyrie for more assets and see if one or more of Philon/Morez/Larry/Christie can break out to be a strong starter/star level player. But it is accepting a 3 year rebuild, with the possible upside of medical retirement for Embiid at some point.
Adding Lively should make this an easy yes for Philly, imo. I still have Lively worth a very late 1st, PJ worth a 1st as well and Gaff somewhere between a swap and a 1st. They come out ahead value wise, and are probably better on the court, as Embiid is just not capable of pulling off an entire playoffs healthy.

Definitely lowers. AD is the most interesting injury prone player i've ever seen. Guy is seemingly always hurt but has no chronic injury issues. Embiid, otoh, might honestly be cooked

Or maybe they need Bey too and add more back. Karlo might make sense. Interesting?

Sort of agree.
I do want to believe AD would play through some of his injuries in the playoffs/contending. And it’s just fragile regular season AD that we’ve grown used to over the last few years as there hasn’t been a real playoff run.
But I think the healthy Joel nights are still a better player than the healthy AD nights? And imagine it’s tough to justify paying to get worse, despite Joel’s issues.

I don’t think this is remotely interesting for Philly.

Healthy Joel is still better offensively, and likely significantly so, as AD has never really been capable as a 1st option creator of offense type. The defense though, might be just as big a gap. AD isnt as good as he used to be, but Embiid's mobility is absolutely shot. And he's become a below average rebounder as well, as the injuries have taken their toll. Im not sure he's still the better overall player, but ya, i still agree, paying to go from Embiid to AD is kinda crazy.

I still feel like this is still the best option. Also an underrated factor here could be that Gafford is a Klutch client.

A team with LeBron, Maxey, and Jaylen Brown does not need offense. It needs a rim protector.

I’d like it better for all parties with Joel/Butler swap.
Dallas getting whatever value Philly adds - GSW getting Curry to playoffs..

I think this team needs mobile, semi-switchable rim protection way, way more than it needs volume offensive creation. Present-day Brow's offensive role, finishing looks created by others, is also exactly what this lineup needs.

No interest in trading Edgecombe. And there’s no way the Sixers let a soon to be 42 year old be LeGM.
That being said, I can still see the motivation to trade Embiid.

I dont disagree. I just dont think you pay to get a better fitting guy who might not be available. While there are fit issues with Embiid, the big problem is availability, and you shoudlnt pay to still have such uncertainty (even if its less).
