Well it was and it wasn't. If they could have continued to build on what they did 2 years ago I think its possible that a backcourt of Beal/Wall could have been attractive enough to KD to at least get a meeting with him. But they did a really poor job on managing their assets and putting together a more competitive team in place ahead of time.

It almost has the feel that they thought his connections to the area would be enough and that was always foolish thinking.

Yeah, I always felt the best way was to just play well, then clear cap space this offseason instead of signing 1 year deals and being mediocre.

To be fair, wasn't the only reason that Joe Johnson ended up in Atlanta was because Robert Sarver was too cheap to pay him? That and he wanted to be the focal point of a team.

Rooting for getting Horford aside, I don't like Conley and Horford staying for the players and the teams. You have two very good, sometimes underrated players staying with their teams which forces both the players and the clubs to remain in that spot between contending/aspiring to contend and rebuilding. Too good to rebuild, too bad to contend. Both clubs don't have any real young talents and their roster has basically been the same for a couple of years now with guys getting older and no improvement in sight.

but Johnson had other options and still chose Atlanta.

Overall, it sounds like Danny Ainge is developing a not-so-great reputation around the league. I don't know how much of those rumblings are true and how much is simply sour grapes. But at some point it seems like he's going to have to work towards some common ground with another team. Either that or he has to find himself another sucker GM to swindle.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. For a guy that is constantly leaking bs to the media and simultaneously trying to hustle himself to a one-sided-deal, it's clear that ppl become cautious and weary. He has been trying to get the maximum for nothing too often in the past.

I was surprised by the source. This is coming off of some negative reporting by the Herald.

Charlotte is in a similar situation this offseason. I think we're going to learn from Washington though and try to put the most competitive team we can on the floor and hope that combined with the draw of home is enough to at least convince Curry to meet with us. If a miracle happens and he wants to sign with us then we'll do whatever it takes to open up the needed cap space.

I know I've said this before, but...someone go check on HW.

All jokes aside, this isn't too bad of an idea. He's young, presumably has upside, and by the time they're in serious contention he'll probably be off the books if he completely busts. And they have so much cap space and are unlikely to pick up much in the way of free agents.

Pretty much meaningless. GMs get cranked out all of the time about offers and it doesn't mean anything. Supposedly Morey asked for Bradley and Crowder for Howard before the deadline, which is ridiculous. Ainge was irked that Memphis tried to land Ray Allen for OJ Mayo and a late first. And he still makes trades with them every single year.

Besides, the front office in Chicago has made almost zero trades, what do they have to compare it to?

Philly needs something resembling a 3 and D wing. They're gonna have trouble even reaching the cap floor. You might as well get someone rather than take on another bad contract and cut it just to reach the floor.

I just hope its not a max. I could be on board with something that starts at the max and then has significant decline throughout the deal.

I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't get the max from someone.

Dion to Sac wold be a double win for Philly with the swap rights and the bullet dodged.

Besides Philly needs to spend their time chasing Olympic Gold Medalist(R) Harrison Barnes.

The fact that Dion would easily be the best SG on either roster says less about Dion than it does about how desperate both teams are for SG help :-?

I'm still of the mindset that if the deal is reasonable, it's worth keeping him. But I'm not gonna cry too much if he leaves.

I can confirm the Kings interest in Waiters. My source said significant interest.

I can also confirm I heard the 76ers have interest in Barnes and are willing to extend him a max offer.
