Go through every possible detail. The only reason you would do it right away if there was no issue whatsoever. Instead its about 20 games into a season where a RFA is finally getting an offer, one who had a trade vetoed last year because of his health.

They aren't getting new info about his health in the past 24 hours imo. They should have already had an idea of what they would and would not match as well. All the Motie info they have when they decide to match or not at the deadline is there now.

So, I come back to if they care about his production for this year, get him into camp 2 days earlier and 2 days closer to actually contributing, which is more valuable than extra 2 days to delay making a decision after more than enough time to process the situation. The only reason I really get is to take the time is figuring out a move with someone else.

They didn't know the numbers and details of the deal however. Even if it's an easy decision it's just how the Rockets operate. Almost everything is done in the 11th hour. It's annnoying, but it is what it is. Morey is a deadline guy.

I'm sure Morey colluded with Sean Marks on this offer. 9m/year is bit low for someone of Motiejunas' talent.

Two years of unguaranteed money helps to mitigate list in case he continues to suffer from the back injury. If Motiejunas blows up and becomes even a starter, his contract value is a good $15-18m/year.

If you don;t have any actual evidence of this---and you don't--then let's not make such allegations.

And obviously the reason he just got a deal has everything to do with his health. And yes that is clearly evident in how the deal is structured. And the most obvious explanation for why Brooklyn signed him is they need talent and taking a chance on a very risky guy like Motiejunas is a good way for them to get it. If he can't really ever play, meh, no big loss to them.

Yeah if there was actual collusion this offer sheet would've come in before the 22nd

If anything there was collusion between D.Mo's agent BJ Armstrong and the Nets. Let's get D.Mo a decent contract and in return, I will see what I can do about getting him here a. if they cut him by March 1st or b. in a year when he can be traded. In the meanwhile, I'll remember this for future free agents I represent.

Well, you tried, Sean.

On the plus side I always like seeing someone get Morey's goat.

I actually think this deal is pretty favorable for Houston. Assuming they ever wanted to keep the player and not "the asset"

I agree, think its actually a fairly nice contract for Houston now.

With Morey I always err on the side of "asset" over "player".

Agree with Devin here:

Yeah I love the deal. The trade veto rights aren't ideal but maybe you do have to move him, he probably wouldnt refuse to go anywhere. If he doesn't work out at all this year they can waive him March 1st and past that he can be a real bargain contract with 2 unguaranteed years to boot.

Bobby Brown released to make room. First, Whitney, now this.

The Nets are doing a decent job of tying up everyone else's cap space if nothing else.

I don't understand why BRK didn't offer more. They have the space and a two year roll of the dice on DMo is nothing with all the cap space they have.

That'll surely give them the edge with UFAs...right?

Playing the long game. Soon they'll be literally the only team with space then BOOM. KD to Brooklyn

I'm really interested in seeing how Harden abuses the frontline of Ryan Anderson and Donatas Motiejunas. We're 20 games into the season and we have a fresh D-Mo waiting to run the floor, jack threes, and hit jump hooks.

I haven't been enamored with Brooklyn's execution this offseason. The big move game plan was right -- make big offers to young players and hope to get a core to grow into. But the execution and all the smaller moves left me unimpressed across the board.
