Remember, Westbrook only has 1 year left on his deal, so I can see a situation developing at the deadline where a team made a 3 year signing that they want to get out of. For example, I could see a world where the Knicks are disappointing at the deadline they consider a Kemba + Fournier for Westbrook type of trade. The rationale (and I understand using the word rationale when talking about the Knicks making a trade isn't always needed) would be that Westbrook is a better player than Kemba at this point in time and it would get the Knicks off the final year of Fournier's deal.

I am not saying that the Knicks would be prepared to make this trade today, they likely would not be, but it's not hard to see a similar situation present itself at the deadline.

You mean 1 year after this

Yes a deal like this also makes sense, but likely makes more sense in the summer rather than the deadline, but who knows

Correct. The logic for NYK would be (a) Westbrook being a better current player than Walker and (b) getting off the last year of the Fournier contract. But this would only make sense if NY is struggling and outside the playoff picture.
