That PHI roster is stacked but an interesting mix. Will be interesting to see how they manage spacing and ball handline. All of VJ/Brown/Lebron/Embiid CAN shoot in general but all below league average percentages wise and Maxey is kind of streaky/inconsistent there too. Pace of play mismatch with Embiid/Brown both playing really slow and the others best in transition. How they balance lineups and ball handling responsibilities will be fascinating to see. Luckily for them they have an actual schematics coach in Nurse instead of a good vibe tribes type of guy. As stacked as they are, they'll definitely need those Xs and Os sorted out.
With a modicum of health Philly should be at least 50/50 to go to the finals. It will be interesting because I feel like the Celtics over achieved last year and it of course crashed in the playoffs, this year they could play more to their roster since so many teams are fighting off relegation. Knicks too last year seemed to coast, but now with less depth if they play as meh as they did last regular season they could be in play-in territory.
Sixers with just Brown-Edgecomb-Maxey are competitive enough to be a playoff team. Add 20 games of Embiid and 50 games of 25 minute LeBron and it would be hard to imagine them not at the top of the east.
Knicks just had one of the most dominant title runs ever, maybe the most. Certainly by many metrics. You're not going to convince me that they're going to end up in the play in mix haha
It's definitely interesting though. MIA and PHI were in the play in and both have made moves that should elevate them substantially. IND getting Hali back and not tanking should be another team in the mix. Giannis/Bam are both great individually and Spo is a coaching God, but I'm still a little down on MIA because the pieces just seem clunky. But they're still much elevated.
On the downside, BOS's depth of "serviceable" players and their coaching set them up perfectly to stack wins against a league full of tankers last year. I think they're better on paper with the PG/Mitch additions and Tatum taking over for Brown (I know Brown as good or better than Tatum is a hot take but I honestly don't and have never thought it was even close), but less tankers probably means less of a win total for them IMO because they're built to "beat who you should and lose to who you should" and they'll have less games they "should" win this year. ATL was awesome in the 2nd half last year but I'm skeptical. I feel like people love all their 3&D players but I feel like they're due to stagnate unless Jalen Johnson breaks out into an actually elite player. I think DET's 60 wins were fools' gold last year.
