or the team they are talking to doesn't want a pick so far in the future

Yea, I'm a fan of this. But frees two picks for Miami as well. Wonder who for? Do they send Herro+picks for Beal? It's a bad idea, but I'm still thinking about it.

Doesn’t have to be for anyone right now. They were looking to clear a roster spot to promote Martin to the active roster and stay under the tax. If they were dumping KZ anyway, then it makes sense to use it to help clear up their pick protections for future trades.

So a team with a GM that has little job security? :)

At the very least it's nice to see the team with the protected pick kicking value (a second and a roster spot) for a higher upside pick when a lot of posters think teams would demand assets to make their own potential picks better

OKC got a better pick, better balanced on their timeline, and got a player they might want to take a look at. Do we know which 2nd it is, or even if it’s protected?

worst of 2026 DAL/OKC/PHI 2nds. Not a good pick but it's something. Miami just wanted to dump KZ to sign Martin so they didn't assign value to him at least
To clarify, I think it's great for okc

that pick is next to useless. It would require 3 different teams to be bad 5 years from now for that pick to be in the top 45. It's likely the kind of pick that gets sold for cash. it's only there because OKC is required to send something in a trade.

Hero and 2 picks for Harden would be amazing.

Again, not saying it's great, but it is a real pick that went to the heat. Could have been top 55 prot if it was just about touching

Wojnarowski pointed to the Portland Trail Blazers as having interest in acquiring Grant, although they may not have enough assets.

Cash is still positive asset .
There’s outgoing value from OKC cause otherwise OKC can still send out protection on the pick it hold like a top 55 protected pick so only 55-60 goes to Miami

Miami would have to include Lowry + Robinson just to make salaries work right?

I don't necessarily think they are a contender as is, but does Harden fit that culture? Feel like Harden and Jimmy would be fighting within the week lol

They definitely have the assets, I think, with the Pels pick, Little, Keon, and Simons. I think the question is whether they would include those. They can't trade their own pick, I think, because it could convey to CHI next year.

Yea.. I would think that it's not that they "don't have the assets"... rather that "they don't have the assets they're willing to move on"

There's not that much incentive to bid against themselves at this moment. So unless some other team is willing to send out a package that the Pistons really like, and want to move on right now. I don't see a reason to not re-approach in the offseason and potentially watch the Ben Simmons situation if the Harden deal doesn't go through.

I think Woj knows more than you and me, if he is saying they may not have enough assets, I'll trust that.

Good time for my periodic reminder of how Woj got his start, shilling for the Pistons no less, and how he buys his access by putting out talking points for teams and agents. Woj breaks trades. The rest is often noise.

VCfor3 wrote:My Harden package guess is Simmons, Thybulle, Green, and PHI 1st with Green and PHI 1st being rerouted to a third team for more win-now help. I think Philly refuses to give up Maxey in a deal and offers only one of Curry or Thybulle (BKN's pick). Maybe Philly parts with both or BKN picks Curry over Thybulle since he is more win-now and Joe Harris is a weird situation, but I'll stick with my guess

adding Thybulle and Simmons to Nets really gives them a good defensive look. Will put more pressure on Durant to score, but Simmons creativity will help give role players open shots as well. Nets seem pretty messy this year, I'd definitely think long and hard about it if i was them
