GS / Philly / Portland draft day deal

Post#1 » by Ricepilar » Wed Apr 7, 2010 4:35 am

Portland trades Rudy Fernandez, Jeff Pendergraph, #20
Portland gets Thaddeus Young

Why?
Frontcourt depth was a problem this year. Young would be awesome as a 3/4 off the bench. He'd be a better version of Travis Outlaw for them essentially. They'd have a great smallball line-up with Young and the 4 and Aldridge at the 5.

Philly trades Sam Dalembert, Thaddeus Young, #7
Philly gets Monta Ellis, Jeff Pendergraph, #20

Why?
Its a perfect situation for Ellis. They have a big PG to cover him on D and a great sidekick on the wing.

GS trades Monta Ellis
GS gets Sam Dalembert, Rudy Fernandez, #7

Why for GS?
Seems like there will be some big changes. They let Curry run the team and give him a backcourt mate that will fit better. Not 100% sure who they'd target with #7. It depends where their own pick falls. I think Greg Monroe might make some sense next to Anthony Randolph.

Signed, sealed and delivered. Grab Cousins with our pick and Johnson with Philly's.

Value's fine, but no need for Thad, no thanks

Agreed, Batum > Thad, so he'd just be a backup in Portland.

I don't even know if the Blazers need to make any moves. In the off season, get Oden healthy, re-sign Camby, and this is a 55 win team. They've got time to find their long term solution at the point with Miller playing well and signed for 2 more years.

Miller/Bayless
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster
Aldridge/Cunningham/Pendegraph
Oden/Camby/Pryz

no thanks from philly.

A line up of Jrue/Monta/Iggy would give us (still) no outside threats. Monta would look awful on the 6ers when the defense just collapses and he has to drive and score on 5 guys in the paint ever possession.

I'd much rather take Johnson at our pick.

Jrue (35) / LWill
Iggy (35) / Johnson / LWill
Johnson (30) / Young (18)
Brand / Young (15)

Absolutely yes, even if we then have 2 centres earning big bucks. It'd be a GOOD problem to have as they would compete for the top spot and at worst we have a solid C to offer up later in trade. I like the D upgrade at the 5, I like the pick at 7 to add to out number 2 pick. Rudy Fernandez would flourish in our uptempo system.

We kinda end up with a TONNE of young talent when you also throw in the 2 picks. The roster would be ridiculously stacked everywhere with youth, which would make any priest randy.

Yeah......BIG FRIGGIN DEAL....GSW trades a guy who got 25 ppg in the PRO game for a guy who got 16 per in college.

Johnson has a battle to just get minutes from the 4 wings GSW has left.

The deal fails to actually HELP GSW. They lose their ACE scorer...get a lot of second string boost..but GSW HAS depth.

As already stated, the Blazers pass on this. Young wouldn't start in Portland and he'd barely even have a role on the team.

Lets check out our depth chart AFTER this deal goes down then.

PG Curry/Watson
SG Morrow/Fernandez/Williams
SF Maggette/Azubukie/Johnson
PF Randolph/Wright/Tolliver
C Dalembert/Biedrins/Cousins/Turiaf

:rocking:

Seriously rem, that DEPTH that you love to preach for us is amazing and DEEP (thats what she said). At worst we can package up 2-3-4 pieces of that and make a run at a superstar after all of the dust has settled on the 2010 FA circus. Most of all though, I see guys that fit together as a unit.

Not sure what else to wish for in a return for Monta.

And....

WHO SAYS I WANNA TRADE HIM?

Yeah...gimme Dwight Howard or something zany....NOT a few NOT STARTER guys I see as TEMPORARY.

I have the OLD REM plan...and it is SO Fookin' PERFECT...and we hardly need to do SQUAT.

Get an okay draft pick...trade Vlad for a less useless short timer...then RELAX. This is SO EASY. Really.
The trick is to nothing stupid+desperate. I KNOW that's tough...but that's the JOB.

3 -4 yr ago I wanted Monta here LONG TERM...still do. A deal to satisfy ME? Good luck. I'm no cheap slut when it comes to trading off guys I LIKE to have here. I do NOT want temps, surplus, escapees etc. I want KEEPERS. I want STUDS,Starters. That....is NOT in this.

I see Ellis as > J Wall right now. 3-4 year later..maybe Wall is>,or is not. #7 or whatever it is? I don't know if that guy gets major action soon.

Cmon now, of course he would. Great energy guy off the bench at the 3-4 positions.

Biedrins >> Sam D if his crotch is okay. We ....in TYPICAL GSW flounder mode...trade our ACE for some second level stuff........then we covet some over paid/hyped "SUPERHERO"...who really is just a hair > what's here but SO MUCH more $ that the FO hits the self destruct button.

We have TALENT ...a lot of it. We have growth potential, most everyone is YOUNG. We are not in a $$$$$ crunch. We SCORE a ton.

We get a high #1. We get a high #2. Get REBOUND guys. Some tough mutha buckers...and just STAY HEALTHY. We win 60% and rise from there.

Wes Johnson? Is he even = Azubuike? Morrow? Maggette? Reggie W? Has he EVER scored 30 in an NBA game? Those guys HAVE. Wes is a 16 pt college guy. Real thing...at #7,if that was the pick, we likely take Aldrich or Aminu,or maybe Udoh. Probably W Johnson is taken. Probably---so is Monroe.

Whatever. I need our high velocity Mississippi missle. The FASTEST/QUICKEST guy...pretty much is an asset to have. I got that. Don't wanna NOT have that.

Well, I'm all in for cashing Monta in NOW. He's not what Golden State needs as a team and is the best asset to get a return on right now. I watched Curry and Morrow combine for 2389 3 pointers in a drool worthy display in the back court against Toronto the other day and I won't lie, it gave me a raging woody. I like Monta but he doesn't fit next to Curry and Morrow does, period. I want to use Monta to get a big ogre that rebounds and defends the paint and that can also remain healthy. I have serious doubts about the Latvians future as his groin area is all busted up. Hopefully he comes back, and even if he does come back healthy, I still want a BIGGER guy next to him that is not of the Turiaf or Tolliver variety.

This deal puts us into a MUCH better position as a team and as a franchise with assets moving forward. We get deeper, bigger, stronger whilst losing a little speed. Hell, we don't even have to draft Wes, we could trade the pick off elsewhere if needed.

Also, we lose Monta but here he goes FAR East. Good for us.

That's ridiculous. He'd be their 6th man and a damn good one. Batum is good, but he isnt playing 40mpg. Webster would get almost exclusively backup SG minutes. That would leave Young to backup SF the PF. He would definitely play a lot.

One thing, Webster IMO simply cannot play SG with any effectiveness. He simply has no handles and is a poor dribbler and can't create his own shot, don't know why people think he can play SG? He's a volume shooter who needs a lot of minutes but does play good D, he would be better on on the Suns-Knicks-Warriors.

I don't mind the idea of Young at all as Webster has shown he's just not that good off the bench - can Young score off the bench consistently? If he can he might be a nice 3/4 addition for us as our bench has sucked.

Rem do you watch GSW games? Ellis and Curry do not fit together. You either trade one of them, or you keep on losing. You seem to prefer the latter.
