Dunce Cap Space: DET - WASH - N. O.
Detroit outgoing: Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Jason Maxiell, Austin Daye
Detroit incoming: Gilbert Arenas, Emeka Okafor, Al Thornton
Washington outgoing: Gilbert Arenas, Al Thornton
Washington incoming: Richard Hamilton, Jason Maxiell, Darren Collison
New Orleans outgoing: Emeka Okafor, Darren Collison
New Orleans incoming: Tayshaun Prince
Case for Detroit: The Pistons are now on a 4 year plan with Arenas, Okafor, Gordon and Villanueva all set to expire in the summer of 2014...
Arenas/Stuckey
Gordon/Stuckey
A. Thornton/Jerebko
Villanueva/Jerebko
Okafor
Case for Washington: They get out from perhaps the ugliest contract in the NBA while getting their PG of the future in Collison. Wizards have a ton of cap space to add significant free-agents this summer...
Collison
Hamilton/Young
Daye
Blatche/Maxiell
McGee/Blatche
Case for New Orleans: They get yet another significant expiring 2011 contract in Prince while shedding Okafor's longterm deal. Peja, Prince, Peterson, Songalia and Wright all expire after next season...
Paul
M. Thornton/Peterson
Prince/Wright/Stojakovic
West/Songalia
FA/Draft
TRADE NOTE: Pistons have the right to swap picks with either the Wizards or Hornets (if that's allowed)

If NO would do Collison/Okafor for Prince, there is no chance we let Collison go to a third team for the right to take on Arenas. Washington is cut out of this deal, and fast.

That doesn't really matter because this is an absurd deal for the Hornets. They could likely get expirings/under the luxury tax without attaching anything to Okafor.

Don't like for Detroit.
Tay is worth Okafor as a player and then the age/contract differences kinda balance each other. Sorta. Daye's value pwns Thornton's. Then Rip/Max for Garenas is okay, but not special and certainly not safe because we would need him to play like an all-pro to take the edge off his contract, which would still be a pain in the butt.
Washington is absoluting pillaging here. New Orleans gets treated awful. And, if it matters to you, Daye isn't listed as incoming at the beginning.

New Orleans doesn't make this trade. Collison is worth major upfront cap space, a lotto pick, or a a good player. Meka had a bad year, but he isn't a giveaway player. He's a good 2 way player and that's really hard to find at the 5 spot. We aren't gonna give him away. This would be a straightup financial move for the Hornets but it only saves us money in years when we are under the cap.
Also, Prince still has some value but he's a bad fit for the Hornets. We need wings that can hit the spot up 3.

I don't like this at all
Detroit don't get much in return. I don't rate Arenas at all.
Prince for Okarfor makes more sense.
Cut Washington out.

Yea dude, how does Washington trade probably the worst contract in the league for that package? Rip's contract isn't awesome by any means, but damn. Washington needs a reality check on Arenas apparently.

Well, at least we aren't Cleveland... seriously... Indians, Cavs, Browns... ouch.

That's not a Washington proposal, Master Shake, so no, we don't 'need a reality check'.
It'd be pretty iffy that we'd trade Arenas without incentive for Hamilton and maxiel anyway, as the difference in money is mitigated by the gate receipts (about $34 million if I'm remembering Rip's last year right).
All signs point to us keeping Gil, with Flip instituting a bunch of 'two lead guards alternate' sets.
Not a problem for us to keep Gil.

Yes you do need a reality check. So let me try to help you.
Gilbert Arenas have 1 more year than Rip and Maxiell's contract and it's a year worth 22 freaking million.
Arenas contract is 80,154,456
Rip's contract is 37,500,000
Max contract is 15,000,000
80 >>>>>>>>>>> 52 the difference is freaking insane. so don't come with this bull no one will touch Arena and his contract. People in this board are a joke, they try to make Rip's contract something similar to Arena's or Brand's contract, so wake up Rip's contract isn't pretty but Arenas and Brand contract are hands down 10 times worst than any other contract in the league. Period.
Now that we clarified that part, this trade is absolutely ridiculous to anyone except Washington.

Whatever Vege, you're out of line. I'm saying I don't want Hamilton and Maxiel for Arenas and you're telling me what exactly? I have no idea of who Evermore roots for, but no Wizards fans were shopping Arenas for your precious package of Hamilton and Maxiel.
But you miss a lot of important points.
Firstly, $28 million is not as big of a discrepancy when you factor in ticket sales and first option scoring status. Sorry, nobody's coming out to see Maxiel and Hamilton in D.C. To say that Gil can make back $15 over four years by stoking fan interest is being ridiculously conservative with it. And anyway, almost all the savings comes in the fourth year, so it's not like this is opening up a lot of opportunities for us. Uh, better make that 'any opportunities'.
The other thing for the 'Zards is that our next biggest contracts are for about $3.25-$2.6 million, so supposing Gil just vanished, what are we going to do with the money? Sign Joe Johnson for the max? I'll take Gil. We're under the minimum payroll threshold, so we've got to spend the money anyway. It's a completely different situation than your Pistons.
I don't see why you'd adopt the position that I, other Wizards fans or Washington management should put the valuation as you do. We have different priorities and I'm telling you $28 million isn't enough savings to bridge the talent gap FOR THE WIZARDS.
That is a perfectly reasonable position to take.
