Trade 1: NOH
Pacers Trade: Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Jeff Foster
Hornets Trade: David West, Emeka Okafor, James Posey

Hornets get pure expiring contracts for the long term overpaying deals of Okafor, Posey, and West.

Hornets lineup:
Foster
Murphy
Dunleavy
Thornton
Paul

Trade 2: TOR
Pacers Trade: T.J. Ford
Raptors Trade: Jose Calderon, 2010 2nd round pick, 2011 2nd round pick

The Raptors do this to free up cap space next summer so they can try to re-re-build their team again. They lose the better player and 2 draft picks, but they save a lot of money in the next 2 years after next season.

Signings:
Re-sign Earl Watson.
Sign Nate Robinson for the full MLE for 5 years.

Indiana Pacers 2010 Lineup:

Okafor /Hibbert /McRoberts
West /Hansbrough /Jones
Granger /Posey /Rush
Jones /Robinson /Rush
Calderon /Watson /Price

The Pacers will now have two very good post players and a great ditributor at the point guard position. They sign Robinson to provide scoring off the bench, and could be a good secondary scorer to Granger when they are playing together. They now have two defensive stoppers with Posey and Jones. James Posey, Jose Calderon, and Nate Robinson also add much needed 3-point shooting to this team. They also get 2 second rounders from the Raptors, which can be sold or used to sign a 15th man this year, and one next year.

I don't think the Hornets do the first trade; if they trade West they would want another legitmate scoring option back.

Those deals eat up all of our projected capspace without putting us near being a contender.

For the first deal, I don't see why we're required to take on Posey considering the saving NO gets out of it past 2011. The second deal is really bad for Indy.

I'm a huge West fan, but why don't we just try to sign him in 2011 outright instead of getting up all our flexibility? He will no doubt opt out so the option would be there.

The trades aren't bad, but i don't think a) the hornets would give away west for that sort of talent even with the money they save and b) the Raps probably won't take back TJ.
But they makes sense for indy.
Having cap space isn't a guarantee to get better.
Trust me, I'm a Detroit fan.

Paul/West/Okafor + 2 Dantay Jones level starters hasn't been that good in NO (enough to be a solid playoff team in the Eash, but not much better). Replacing Paul with Granger, even with a much better bench certainly doesn't result in a better team.

Nate Robinson for 5yr/$35M!!!! Immediatly joins Jared Jefferies, Jerome James and other horrible full MLE deals.

Finally, NO is apparently looking to turn some of their ECs' into nothing to get under the luxury tax - as opposed to tanking next year for 2011 cap space

That's a heck of a lot money for a team that wouldn't even be a top 4 team in the East.

It just might be.....

No way Indy gives up all those expirings for that commitment to salary.

We simply want Collison for our first (10th) + filler. Maybe we could throw an expiring in there to precipitate a deal. Larry simply cannot afford to mortgage our future with that package, although the talent is probably greater, it is not great enough to consider we'd be any better.

Yeah... uh... If David West, Emeka Okafor, and James Posey can't make a contender playing with Chris Paul.... how they going to do so playing with Danny Granger? (Though they are in the East...)

We just can't take on all that salary. ESPECIALLY NOT if we are following it up by getting Calderon.

The Robinson part of it is just ludicrous. To say the least.

Now... If it's Okafor, West, Posey, Collison for Foster, Murphy, Dunleavy, #10 pick.... maybe. Because we really want Collison, and he is (rightly so) getting a price of more than the #10 pick.

No way on the Calderon/Robinson parts. But if we got a set-ass team out of that first deal (Collison/Rush/Granger/West/Okafor with Price/Jones/Hans/Hibbert off the bench.... damn) we'd consider it.
