Per Ryan Rusillo Podcast-NJ turned down Beasley for Dooling

Ouch. Russillo even says he didn't believe the rumors at first of Beasley being so unwanted, but it's the second time he's heard it from legit sources. He said Rod Thorn said no to Beasley for Keyon freaking Dooling.

Beasley's trade value = negative.

Just so you know who Rusillo is, he works for ESPN and is co-host of the scott van pelt show. His podcast is actually pretty good - it's like the trades and transactions board in audio form.

Hahaha. While it sounds bad, its because Dooling is probably going to get cut if we need the extra cap space. If Dooling's contract was fully guaranteed, I think Rod Thorn would have pulled the trigger.

Probably.. but that's the only reason Miami wanted the trade too of course.. to increase cap.

Exactly. Beasley may be worth less than capspace to teams with max capspace (and teams who may be competing directly, or trying to, with Miami for the same FAs) but it doesn't necessarily mean he is negative value to every other team.

(That assumes this is true in the first place. I don't know who Ryan Rusillo is, or his general level of credibility.)

He does that radio-podcast thing on ESPN. I'd put his credibility as being darn pretty good.

Yup, unless Miami thinks Dooling could be their starting point and would rather use Beasley's salary on a point guard, but I very much doubt that.

Trading Beasley alone wouldn't give Miami enough cap space to sign a 3rd max free agent, though, so without other deals in place, I don't see why Miami would simply give Beasley away. Also, Beasley for Dooling straight up doesn't work, and the Nets don't really have any suitable filler, so it would have to be done after NJ gets cap space. But Dooling would have to be waived before then (June 29) for Miami to see any real cap space benefit. These factors make the rumored deal kind of sketchy.

Well, Cook and Jones are probably easier to move for the 18th pick and maybe the future Toronto pick if Beasley is moved on his own for pure cap space. Maybe the 18th and Jones to Washington for their TPE, so he can be cut before his contract becomes guaranteed, then Cook for the future Toronto 1st in a seperate deal.

Also, Beasley for Dooling straight up doesn't work, and the Nets don't really have any suitable filler, so it would have to be done after NJ gets cap space.

Works with CDR as the filler and he is a team option for the coming season.

But Dooling would have to be waived before then (June 29) for Miami to see any real cap space benefit. These factors make the rumored deal kind of sketchy.

^^See above.

How about Delonte West's Erik Dampuier type of contract for Beasley.

Beasley has failed to live up to expectations, he'll be a decent rotation player on most teams but rarely more than that.

For Beasley to be most effective, he'll need to be a veteran team where he's not relied on to be a major piece.

Except that Miami and Cleveland are not exactly looking to help each other out at this point in time.

If true, NJ turned this down because:

1. This would add about 4.5m to their payroll and cut about 4.5m for Miami
2. Miami is going to be one of NJ's biggest competitors in free agency
3. NJ expects to land Favors or Cousins and already have Yi + Humphries at PF
4. Beasley's character issues

I don't know what I would have done is I were Thorn, but I can see why he said no.

Yeah, that's a problem. Obviously it would have to be done after LeBron says he will re-sign with Cleveland. Especially since I think Cleveland could package Beasley in a deal with Hickson/expiring contracts to get a better player.
