Toronto Realistic Offseason Plan

Post#1 » by Raptor04 » Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:42 pm

In order to accomodate everyone's needs, the following trade seems right:

Trade #1- Toronto, Chicago, Memphis

Toronto Trades: Chris Bosh (S&T)
Toronto Receives: Rudy Gay (S&T)

Chicago Trades: Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, 2011 1st (Unprotected)
Chicago Receives: Chris Bosh (S&T)

Memphis Trades: Rudy Gay (S&T)
Memphis Receives: Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, 2011 1st (Unprotected)

A simple, realistic trade that accomplishes everyone's needs. Since rumors indicate Gay may sign with another team for quit a bit of money, Memphis matches but Gay is ultimately unhappy, so he is traded for an equally productive player in Deng. Toronto trades one star for a smaller star, but one that fits the need quite well, while not being forced to give up too many assets. Chicago trades for Bosh and also likely receives LeBron in the process, while keeping the players they like best. The reason Memphis doesn't mind taking on Deng is because they have virtually no salary guaranteed past 2011, and retaining an asset for the same production while accumulating some cheap assets in the process is better than nothing.

Trade #2- Toronto, Orlando

Toronto Trades: Hedo Turkoglu
Toronto Receives: Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat

Orlando Trades: Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat
Orlando Receives: Hedo Turkoglu

Toronto trades the disgruntled player back to where he enjoyed most of his success. In return, they take on some slightly overpaid players, but players at positions of need. With the above trade for Gay, they no longer require Hedo too. Rumors have been surfacing that Orlando wants Hedo back, and they get back a player that worked well in their system. Its a win-win since both teams have nothing to lose, and the risk may be worth the gain.

Overall Toronto Roster:

Jack/Calderon/Banks
Derozan/Weems/Belinelli
Gay/Pietrus
Davis/Johnson/Evans
Bargnani/Gortat/Alabi

++Calderon and Banks/Evans can be traded for a diff maker later in the season

Why does Gay agree to go to Toronto instead of playing for a title in NY, NJ, or Miami?

You know its a poor response when three teams are mentioned as being title contenders and the Nets are the most realistic of the bunch.

Because he is a restricted free agent who can still be resigned by Memphis, and this is a deal that gets Memphis back fair value. Any of those 3 teams will not be able to offer anything but underperforming roleplayers (NJ may be the exception).

Nah, chicago isn't getting bosh for scraps, and were not getting an average player for bosh in return.

Understand that, if Bosh leaves via a sign-and-trade, hedo turkoglu or jose calderon will be going with him.

Orlando is not trading Gortat and Pietrus for Hedo. Hedo is not coming to Orlando unless Bosh is with him, that is the only way Orlando brings back Hedo.

I'd be surprised. That's a LOT of money for any team to take on, especially if it's Turk. The best way to move an expensive liability is with a cheap asset, not an expensive one (which Bosh certainly will be).

But he has to agree to a S&T, no? You can't trade a guy to the team he signed an offer sheet with, so it's either Memphis overpays him to stay to the tune of 13m plus, or he walks somewhere with cap space. They don't really have too much leverage in the situation as far as I know.
