I definately like this return for Melo better than any return I've seen on this board period, but I still don't think Melo wants to play for any team but NY.

Are you serious with this?

Kevin Love for Deandre Jordan and a top 10 protected 1st?

Jordan ahead of Darko, Pekovic, Koufos (at least this one is debatable)?

Wolves say no.

Agreed. I think Jordan is talented, but this isn't a good return for Love.

The Nuggets make out like bandits when they're actually in a pretty crappy situation.
That deal is terrible for the Wolves and Love isn't the interior defender the Clips need at centre, while they have the amazing Blake Griffin at the 4.

I like this trade for the Clippers and for Denver.

No way we would do the deal involving Kevin Love for DeAndre Jordan and the Wolves Unprotected pick though. That pick alone is worth three Kevin Loves. We can live with Jordan and a free agent center for now and use the Minnesota pick to land someone far more talented next year.

According to most Wolves fans, in 2012 they will be solid playoff contenders. More likely though, they will be high lottery candidates - maybe even in line for a top 3 pick in what looks to be a very loaded draft. Its a gamble, but the return to the Clippers is not worth the potential gain a very high draft pick could bring.

We should just cut the Wolves out of this one.

LOL. The top 10 protection runs out in 2011 on that pick, no protection on it in 2012.

What year is it right now? Because with this trade, the Wolves would be giving up Love now.

Are you honestly suggesting that it would be worth it for the Wolves to give up 2 years of Kevin Love for Deandre Jordan and a 1st that could be anywhere in the lottery (and potentially even out of the lottery)?

Remember that the Wolves have never, NEVER gotten higher than the 3rd pick, and they've never, NEVER moved up in the draft. That pick is far from guaranteed to be anything special (even disregarding that draft picks can (and do) bust).

And as long as so many Clips fans believe this, we'll continue to see these crazy posts.

What's the chance you can pick any team to be the worst in the NBA in two years? Teams can suddenly be horrible with an injury, like MIA a couple years back, or WAS last year. Utah fans thought the unprotected NYK 1st was going to be John Wall, even only one year before the draft. It turned into the #9 pick. And even then, you've got a LOTTERY system in the NBA, with, at best, a 75% chance you don't get the #1 pick.

I understand overhyping your asset - but c'mon. What are you guys saying over on your board to unanimously ignore the prediction of any nba team and the entire lottery system?

A little delusional are we? Kevin Love is a decent PF who sometimes plays C. He can rebound and do the little things but his offense sucks. He will most likely be a guy that helps a team stay mediocre but never top 10 in his position.

Wolves fans seem to think the world of their team. As a Clipper fan, I can fully understand this delusion. Unfortunately, it takes a very talented player to pull crap teams out of the basement. Oklahoma got Durant, Cleveland got LeBron, the Hornets got Chris Paul. Now the Clippers got Griffin. These guys are all top picks. How many Kevin Loves are worth a LeBron or a Durant or even a Griffin? Quite a few I think. I don't know if the Wolves are due to get their top pick in the near future, but I do know that if it happens in 2012, the Clippers will be the ones celebrating.

One more thing. The Wolves had an even worse year than the Clippers last year. After jettisoning their best player (by a long shot) what makes you think the Wolves will leave the basement anytime soon? If you can, please list me a single team they are likely to beat in the West this year?

So much irony. I'm thinking you didn't read my last post?

If you think someone is delusional is they over-rate an actual player, what do you call a person who over-rates their ability to predict the future two years out AND ignores the lottery system? It seems like "delusional" isn''t quite strong enough?

I don't see anything one sided with the TWolves giving up Love prior to an extension and acquiring a potential top 5 pick in what could be a very good draft in 2012 along with DeAndre Jordan. I'd say the odds of that pick being top 5 would have to be over 50% right now. The Western conference is a very difficult one to improve in compared to the Eastern conference. They may have some luck in the 2011 lottery, move up and pick Harrison Barnes, but even a player as talented as Barnes may take some time to adjust to the NBA. Injuries to other teams and adding a young star like Barnes could move them out of the top 5 but I'd expect the Clippers to just hold onto the pick, they don't need Love anyway with Griffin on the roster, neither player is a center.

Look what Minnesota received for Al Jefferson, he has had injuries and doesn't play much defense, but the picks received for him have almost no chance of being top 10.

If the Clips do give up too much, a solution to that could be taking out Aminu and replacing him in this deal with Rasual Butler's expiring contract which can be traded beginning December 15th and/or cash considerations. Kaman and Gordon for Melo should be enough to get it done IMO after further consideration.

MIN's been bad for several years, so shouldn't that mean their unprotected pick would be valuable, and net a Top 3 potential superstar?

Nope.

In the last four drafts, the 12 different top 3 picks have gone to 11 different teams.

2010 WAS - PHI - NJN
2009 LAC - MEM - OKC
2008 CHI - MIA - MIN
2007 POR - OKC - ATL

Do you guys understand that talking about getting LeBron and Durant for some future pick in 2012 might be a little irrational? Or is it just too much fun to keep saying it's so valuable, despite the evidence and the system in place?
