Why for the Hawks: they add depth to a poor bench, Brooks and Budinger are UNDERRATED shooters. Team will improve a lot with a new kind of play.

Why for the Rockets: they give away some depth and win a guy who will help in defense and can easily play 40 mins game. Also they go small which is the most effective type of play for us.

No from Atlanta and Houston prospective. This puts Atlanta in potential cap hell but Ming marketability would help us from China and Houston is not getting rid of Yao marketability.

or
Mo Evans and a future 1st round pick for Kyle Lowry

These seems like reasonable trades. The one you mention is too much from Houston and too much cap for Atlanta, especially if they have to resign often injury Ming.

Yao Ming won't be traded.

Smith is good, but all of the four Rockets players have value. Bibby and Thomas can maybe still produce, but their value is much lower.

His deal is essentially Josh Smith for four players, one(Yao) being a lot more valuable in terms of marketability than the other. Smith is valuable to Atlanta. One of the best PF's in the league. Yao is clearly the best offensive center when healthy but he hasn't been healthy in awhile and most likely won't ever be healthy. Then financial, Smith has a more than reasonable contract and Yao is due an extension. It just doesn't work out on both sides. Yao doesn't get Atlanta over the hump, in fact hurts them due to his durability and just Smith not not enough value for those pieces. I wouldn't even trade all that for an extended Melo.

Man, Carmelo for those pieces would put Rockets into the top3 in the west no doubt about it.

Denver not willing to go over the tax if Melo not there so whoever trades for him will have to take at least 10 million and he needs to extend. Getting him to extend with Yao is much easier than without him.

But soon or later we should accept that Yao is completely done and its only marketing, he will never play more than 3 games in a row anymore.

Rockets and Hawks are not a very good trade partner, as HOU dont need Smith with Scola here and ATL dont need Brook who is not a natural PG but more like a scoring guard.
