Ok, everyone knows Dwight is a top 5 player in the league, and nobody can give equal value. This is again hypothetical..if Dwight really does want out, and that list we've been hearing about has truth to it (Lakers, Knicks, Nets) then other teams that could offer better packages are out of the running regardless. Young talent, picks, and cap space are the foundation for these types of trades. Btw let's not forget that Otis Smith isn't exactly Donnie Walsh.

With that said, I have seen quite a few Atl trades that have Horford being shipped out for Gasol. Watching these playoffs, and years past, I can understand how he might be a little over rated. Johnson is 30, and so is Crawford..they are contending now, and can compete with the top dogs, but are undersized. Smith at times has played the 5. Gasol would definitely make sense for this team as he is a better shot blocker, rebounder, and scorer.

Granger has been less impressive each year since his All Star selection, and his comments about Indiana not being a place where other stars would like to play might be giving him that hopeless mentality. Not saying he's a slacker, but come on this guy is much better than what he's been showing the past couple years. Maybe a change of scenery would help...


Magic Trade: Howard, Nelson, Turk, Duhon
Magic Get: Bynum, Hinrich, Posey, Barnes, Walton +fillers(Ebanks+Caracter)
Future 1st from L.A., 12' 2nd rd pick from L.A.

Hawks Trade: Horford+Hinrich
Hawks Get: Gasol+Blake

Pacers Trade: Granger+Posey
Pacers Get: Horford+Duhon

Lakers Trade: Bynum+Gasol+Barnes+Blake+Walton+Future 1st+2nd rd picks+fillers
Lakers Get: Howard+Granger+Nelson+Turk

-Not sure if this trade could be done on Draft day or if it would have to wait until after because of Horford's Poison Pill status, but if it could be Draft day then L.A. could throw in all four 2nd rd picks to Orlando.

Magic save 22+ mil here just next year, and an additional 15+ mil the next with the difference in Bynum-Howards salary, difference in Nelson-Waltons salary, and losing Turks 10 mil, and Duhon's remaining 7.5 mil. They get picks, and Bynum who could take it easy til they become playoff contenders the way Big Z did in Cleveland, and maybe pick up a nice lotto pick or two.

Pacers eat a little salary with Duhon, but not much as they need a backup pg anyway with Ford being a FA, and form a nice young frontcourt for years with Horford and Hibbard.

Atl is much more balanced, and with a Johnson+Smith+Gasol they could fair a little better against the trio's of Wade+James+Bosh, and the Bulls frontcourt.

Lakers get quicker and more athletic (obviously at center) at the 1, and 3 as well as gaining better 3 pt shooters. Both Nelson and Granger are close to 40% from three. Defensively better as well at those positions.

The big FA pool could allow all teams to fill out there rosters more, and come back next year strong, or look forward to a better future.

So, the Magic trade Howard to get out of some bad contracts...and take back some more bad contracts?

Posey, Walton, and Arenas...I'm sure Magic fans are thrilled with that prospect!

Umm, Posey is an expiring contract dude. What did you not understand about the explanation? The money they save is ridiculous, they also get picks and Bynum...not bad for a scenerio that could play out similar to the Melo situation.

Wow. The lakers somehow turn Bynum and Gasol into Howard, Granger and Nelson. This is comically bad for the magic and terrible for the hawks who would never ever consider Horford for Gasol. The magic could get way more for even an unextended Howard then what you offer them in this trade.

Even if Orlando was willing to trade Dwight, they would not trade him to LA. Even if they were willing to trade him to LA, it would not be for this pile of garbage.

Don't be obtuse. They "shed" Duhon but take back Luke Walton? They have to add value by moving a better PG in Jameer Nelson for Kirk Hinrich? The "picks" they get back are some of the worst available? One future VERY late 1st round pick and a 2nd rounder?

Come now. Most any team in the league could make a better offer for Dwight Howard than LA makes in this offer, especially when you consider that Bynum, while being a very nice young center, also has MASSIVE injury red flags to reduce his value. This isn't even close to conceivable.

A key thing, Orlando wants to NOT lose Dwight no matter what. That suggests they hold off at least till the deadline and then are looking to get PRIMO stuff.

Pau has been a bit better than Horford,overall but is a lot more money,is a lot older...so Horford carrirs more trade value.

I see you've given this a lot of thought -- I like what you;re doing here, but I'm concerened that the nonlaker teams in your thread would balk at the idea of helping LA immensly without any tanagible benefit for themselves.

From LA's perspective, I love it.

Bynum and expirings is not fair compensation for Dwight. I understand why the Lakers feel its a one man game, but can you really rule the Clippers out completely?

DeAndre Jordan (S&T @ $8M) + Chris Kaman ($13M expiring) + Mo Williams (2013 expiring with opt out next year that will probably be exercised) + Randy Foye + Ryan Gomes + Minnesotas #1 pick next year for Dwight Howard + Gilbert Arenas + Hedo Turkalo.

Orlando saves an amazing amount of money. Next year Kaman expires. The following year Mo and Foye expire. Gomes the year after. DJ becomes the center of the future and the Minnesota pick can be used on a solid prospect. Orlando gets to rebuild the right way.

Clippers get Dwight and pair him with Griffin and Gordon. Arenas goes back to LA but Bledsoe can start if necessary. Hedo fills our need for a passing SF with Aminu backing him up.

Plus, most importantly, Orlando can finally get back at the Lakers for Shaq.

I think Orlando would want one other long-term piece, and would have minimal interest in Mo Williams (whom I would assume will NOT opt out of his deal, especially with a new CBA).

I would think that Orlando would prefer to get Eric Gordon or Al-Farouq Aminu in the deal as well. In this deal, Deandre Jordan and the Wolves pick are the only long-term useful deals. Mo Williams (with once again, the multi-year deal) instantly clogs the PG spot with Jameer Nelson already there. Yeah, they dump Turk and Gil but really get Deandre and a crap-shoot on a pick. Tough to claim that as the full return on a full blown superstar who alters pretty much every game he's in.
