Ridnour Available? Meh.

With the Barea signing, I'd imagine Ridnour is available:

Decent vet. Fairly priced for a back-up. Decent shooter, so so on defense.

2011-12: $3,680,000
2012-13: $4,000,000
2013-14: $4,320,000

FG 46.8%, FT 88.3%, 3P 44.0%, 2.8 RPG, 5.4 APG, 11.8 PPG

I figure he's worth his contract, but not much more. Maybe cap space/TPE from a veteran team, or as part of another deal? SG and C remain issues for MIN.

I fully believe he ends up in a deal with either Houston or New Orleans(possibly part of the CP3 trade). Or maybe both?

Wolves already have 16 guys on the team, and zero interest in either of those two.

There is a good chance the Wolves would consider this.

Do you know the value of the exception?

I like Ridnour a bit - he's a solid NBA player. Good shooter but just no place on this team.

Too bad though - the guy had a rough off-season.

Yeah - a TPE helps with roster crowding too, and in the past, Kahn's tried to help players he's moving find new places where they'd have a role.

Pricetag seems reasonable. I don't think Ridnour is a player anyone gives up big assets for, but I think he is a competant player that earns his contract, and he'd be helpful on another team.

I think Orlando has a TPE? If we don't get Chauncey then maybe...

If the deal for Pau Gasol goes through (say, for a Dwight Howard trade instead of a CP3 trade) then it's a pretty good bet he's going to Houston. Ridnour is about the 27th best PG in the NBA, somewhere around there, and one of the best outside shooting guards in the NBA period. Terrible at finishing at the rim, but that's why he's about the 27th best PG and not top 15 ;).

Minnesota with Adelman wants Kevin Martin, so something like Beasley/Ridnour/Pekovic/Ellington for Martin/Lowry makes a lot of sense for both teams IMO. Clears some cap space so Houston can sign Nene next to Pau Gasol with a veteran PG who will defer to the star players, and gives them some nice bench depth.

Obviously Shrink knows this as a Minnesota fan, but that's the type of deal we're looking for. Quantity for Quality to upgrade the SG or C position.

And before anyone makes fun of the Wolves for having (gasp) 3 PGs...Dallas just won the NBA championship with Kidd (6'4), Terry (6'2), and Barea (err, 5'9 pretending he's 6'0). The Wolves have Rubio (6'4), Ridnour (6'2), and Barea. Please tell me you see the similarity.

Probably not a terrible thing if the Wolves have 3 PGs in the shortened season....especially with Adelman as coach.

No thanks. A great backup or stop-gap starting PG for a backup SF is definitely not what the Wolves need.

I'd love to have him on the Warriors.

Didnt see above posts about needing the roster spot.. I think we'd be willing to absorb him for capspace. Use the remaining space on Dalembert, call it an offseason.

If the W's included a 2nd round pick incentive, would the Wolves be willing to exchange Lou Amundson for Hayward, Ellington or Tolliver? Or anyone else who would save immediate cap money for us?

Raw cap space is possible, but personally I don't want to give Ridnour away without getting an upgrade at SG or C back. I would rather cut someone like Haywood and keep Ridnour/Barea/Rubio. 2 scoring point guards + Rubio isn't exactly a bad thing to have with Adelman as coach. Especially since Ridnour is a 100% outside shooter and Barea is 100% a slasher/penetrator. Adelman loves to attack other team's weaknesses. That said, there are plenty of Wolves fans who would be happy with Ridnour for cap space, with Malcom Lee as our emergency/3rd PG in case of injury.

I think the Wolves are looking to trade 3 or 4 good players on good contracts for one high priced borderline all star. IMO Ridnour is a nice player to fill out salary, because he's a solid rotation player no matter what team gets him. Beasley/Ridnour/Pekovic for Martin would all fit in well on Houston, or Johnson/Ridnour/Webster for Iggy gives them 3 productive players for Iggy (and I would assume another trade or 2 would happen). So the Wolves can basically mix and match to whatever your team needs.

If we were to trade for Ellis, for example, you'd want player X...and Ridnour would be salary added to fill out the trade since all of our good players are cheap. But unlike most trades, Ridnour is salary filler you actually want to take back. So he increases Beasley's trade value if we're trading him for Martin, rather than being dead weight that Houston has to take to match.

I like the nature of this deal, but MIN certainly doesn't need another PF. The front office likes all three of Hayward, Ellington and Tolliver (picked up the option on the first two), though many posters aren't excited about have the first two for two years, but let's use Hayward. The other problem is that MIN has absolutely no use for another PF in Amundson, so we're swimming upstream here. To force a deal, it'd probably end up like:

GSW GETS: Ridnour + Hayward
MIN GETS: Amundsen + $2.4 cash to buy out Amunden + $2.3 mil in cap space + 2nd

I know the front office likes cash, but if they see losing Hayward as a slight negative, I think they'd prefer a straight #3.68 mil TPE from CHA or ORL. It seems like a fair, and competitive offer though.
