Phoenix Suns / Atlanta Hawks / Los Angeles Lakers

Phoenix trades:

Steve Nash / Marcin Gortat / Grant Hill / Robin Lopez / Sebastian Telfair / Shannon Brown

Phoenix gets:

Al Horford / Jason Collins / Devin Ebanks / Darius Morris / Luke Walton / LAL 1st / DAL 1st / ATL 1st

Atlanta trades:

Al Horford / Jerry Stackhouse / Jason Collins / Kirk Hinrich / Marvin Williams / ATL 1st

Atlanta gets:

Steve Nash / Marcin Gortat / Grant Hill / Robin Lopez / Sebastian Telfair / Matt Barnes / Shannon Brown / TPE

Los Angeles trades:

Devin Ebanks / Darius Morris / LAL 1st / DAL 1st / TPE / Luke Walton / Matt Barnes

Los Angeles gets:

Kirk Hinrich / Jerry Stackhouse / Marvin Williams

Why for Phoenix?

They finally start to rebuild. Adding an injured Horford will make them the worst team in the NBA but they will get a high draft pick and a healthy Horford next season. They also add some young talent and draft picks.

PG: Ronnie Price / Darius Morris
SG: Jared Dudley / Michael Redd
SF: Devin Ebanks / Josh Childress / Luke Walton
PF: Al Horford / Markieff Morris / Hakim Warrick
C: Jason Collins / Channing Frye

+ PHX 1st, ATL 1st, DAL 1st, LAL 1st and cap space to sign some free agents

Why for Atlanta?

They become a dangerous contender with incredible depth. Nash and Hill will add veteran leadership and Lopez can be a solid backup center. Matt Barnes and Shannon Brown are solid role players and only Telfair would likely to be cut. The TPE will give them some more flexibility in trades.

PG: Steve Nash / Jeff Teague / Jannero Pargo
SG: Joe Johnson / Tracy McGrady / Shannon Brown
SF: Grant Hill / Matt Barnes / Willie Green
PF: Josh Smith / Ivan Johnson / Vladimir Radmanovic
C: Marcin Gortat / Robin Lopez / Zaza Pachulia

Why for Los Angeles?

They go all in while Kobe is still on their roster. They add a nice starting point gaurd and small forward and cut Walton's useless contract. Hinrich would be perfect next to Kobe while Williams can contribute as well.

PG: Kirk Hinrich / Derek Fisher / Steve Blake
SG: Kobe Bryant / Andrew Goudelock / Jerry Stackhouse
SF: Marvin Williams / Metta World Peace / Jason Kapono
PF: Pau Gasol / Josh McRoberts
C: Andrew Bynum / Troy Murphy

ATL propably gives up too much and this trade may need a few adjustements.

If Suns were to do this trade, is there any way we could move either Childress or Warrick instead of Telfair and Brown? Brown is an expiring, and Telfair could be waived next year for a small $ amount.

Moving Chill or Warrick would free up more cap space.

Definitely in the "way-too-big-to-be-feasible" category specifically in season, but still...

It isn't horrid for my Hawks. Getting the Nash/Gortat combo for what boils down to Horford and a 1st isn't particularly attractive (especially when Teague is making strides), but taking on a handful of possibly useful role players on expiring deals while shedding Marvin's contract does make up for it somewhat. There's no denying that our D would be a lot better with Brown and Barnes would give us a whole lot more options to take much of JJ's defensive responsibilities and keep him fresh for O.

I wouldn't think LAL fans would be particularly keen on this trade though...

I can tell you that there's no way the Hawks would take Chills under any condition - simply too much history there to ignore. I can also say that we wouldn't want to take to leave Telfair and Brown out. We wouldn't consider them throw-ins since they'd both fill a role for us after the trade. I could see adding a Zaza for Warrick addendum to the trade if PHX in exchange for our 1st being dropped to a collection of 2nds for the extra salary we'd take on in the after next season though. We have plenty of those 2nds to chose from - including PHX's own in this year's draft.

As much as I would hate seeing Nash to leave, this is one of the best returns for him what I have seen in a while on this board.

This is one of the few trading Gortat trades that I like.

Horford's way too valuable for this. No from this Hawks fan. Gortat can't carry his jock and Nash is soon to be a TV analyst.

AND the Hawks give a pick?

Sorry for the schizophrenic answer from 2 Hawks fans but I really think ATL management would hang up quickly.

If Nash leaves, the Hawks got rid of Marvin Williams' contract which is not a bad thing either.

If ATL wants to keep the pick, it may not be a dealbreaker for the Suns.

Horford will propably be out for the season so do you really want to wast another year in the playoffs? You're getting a 15 ppg 10 apg point guard, who could easily resign in Atlanta because he said that he wants to play at least two more years. Gortat is a 15 ppg 11 rpg center on a decent contract (he can still opt out after next season, though). That being said, you still add some very nice pieces and get rid of Williams' contract. Do you really think that a late first round pick would be too important for ATL to cancel this deal?

What a let down to click on a deal and see its a 15 player swapmeet.

Those belong on the sister site... UNrealGM

Toss out the clutter and filler and it's Horford for Gortat...and I'm not even sure why LAL is in it.
Gortat is doing well...but part of that is that the Suns lack scoring options aside from him and Nash.
Horford will be back and I think ATL would rather keep him.

swapmeet or swap meat? :-? Some deals fail because teams don't wanna spend the air fare to move a herd of 3rd stringers around the country.

Horford will come back by playoff time so we won't be wasting anything

Lakers pass pretty easily. There isn't that much of a difference between Walton and Williams given the contracts, so adding in two first round picks is overkill. And Hinrich isn't worth more than a TPE at this point IMO. Adding in more young talent and Mat Barnes isn't the way to go.

2 1st rounders may be too much for the Lakers but I can easily see them adding a 1st rounder for upgrading Walton to Marvin Willams and acquiring Hinrich.

I honestly don't think Marvin's deal is so bad that Atlanta needs to move it. He is a decent player production wise so ti isn't seen as this huge positive that Atlanta moves him, if anything moving him creates a hole that needs to be filled.

Nash's 15 ppg and 10 apg are diminished with the fact that he is expiring. Yes he could easily resign in Atlanta, but he could also just as easily say screw it and go ring chasing.

Horford should be back by the end of the season, so it isn't wasting him in the playoffs.

What if Nash verbally agrees to resign with a 2 yr deal with the Hawks and his former teammate Joe Johnson?

And Horford will be back but do you honestly think an Al Horford who is going to be super rusty will make a difference for the Hawks this season?

I disagree that Al won't make a difference, he's probably gonna come back to play the final 10 games of the regular season which is just enough time for him to hit his stride and possibly overcome a fear of re injuring himself, you know the fear that every player gets after they go down for months at a time.

Still I think with Nash & Gortat, it makes Atlanta a much better and deeper team.

I posted this trade on a different forum and here's what I got from some Hawks fans

Not Al Horford. Not for Gortat and a year of Nash. Please remember we think Teague can be really good. Sure, Nash is loads better than Teague but Teague's presence makes this deal Horford-and-lose-Teague for Gortat/Nash. In 2 years, y'all will be laughing at how dumb we were for giving up those 2 young players for a 2nd level Center.
