Confirmed: Okafor + Ariza for R.Lewis +46

Apparently Washington has traded Lewis and a 2nd to NO for Okafor/Ariza (who don't add the #10 to move them).
Not sure if official yet.
Would clear salary for NO, and Ariza would help Washington's sad wing rotation (though not a great shooter). Okafor seems to overload Washington's big man rotation.

I can't get on Twitter at work, but someone posted this elsewhere...
Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress
NBA source tells me Emeka Okafor and Trevor Arizona have been traded to the Washington Wizards for Rashard Lewis and the #46 pick
Anyone know anything about this?

WTF?!
Why would they do that?
NOH can't get more than that? Or are they strictly about having no future payroll?

Just saw that. I think that is a good pickup by Washington if true....
Although that almost assuradly means amnesty for Blanche.

Confirmed by Marc Stein and others on Twitter.
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Confirming what @DraftExpress just tweeted: Wiz have agreed to trade Rashard Lewis and 2012 second-rounder for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza

Why can't they make the trade now?
Doesn't work financially?
Otherwise, trades can happen once a team's season is over.

Hmm... Did the Wiz just become a playoff team?
Wall
Beal
Ariza
Nene
Okafor

What a strange trade.
Now none of those guys can be amnestied and there was talk that any one/two of them may have been.
I'm not sure I understand this deal from NOH's perspective.

Wow this is quite bad.
Ernie Grunfeld does it again! Good looking contract extension.

Take Drummond and possibly Robinson off the Wizards list. Does this mean Beal is gonna be the pick?

Oh, and quick take:
Win win.
Imo Okafor is slight positive value, Ariza negative. Moving both in one swoop for a 1 year 13m cap hit just clear the books and nicely finishes the bottoming out that the Paul trade was.
For Washington? I hated the Nene trade. After all the talk about doing a rebuild right, and how you can't rush it; imo Washington said Wall was regressing and we need to rush it. Having taken that step, this is a very solid move in that direction.
Wall
Beal
Ariza
Nene
Okafor
Still has upside, and is gunning for that 7th seed (I think 8th or 9th is more realistic).
So, win win.

Either that or MKG. I think Beal will be the pick since they will need some more scoring power.

So who will start next to Davis?

Wiz's bench also has a lot of young players with upside, perhaps some they can trade for more sturdy vets - Seraphin, Vesely, Singleton, Crawford, Booker.

It would still cost a good deal of money up front to amnesty either of those guys. Only the Nets showed the willingness to spend a big amount on a player to make him go away (Outlaw's 4/28 left). They can still buyout Lewis I believe for $11m, and at worst they have a massive expirer in Lewis.

R.Lewis
Or #10, Jason Smith, Gustavo Ayon, Carl Landry, Chris Kaman are all possibilities.

I highly doubt Kaman and the Hornets want each other

Cough cough Orlando (and Portland, although there hand was medically forced). Oh, and Baron Davis was owed close to 28m if I recall.
