The Nets have all but completed a trade for Joe Johnson, the six-time all-star, league sources tell NetsDaily. In return, the Hawks get expiring contracts and a first round pick. NOT included in the trade: MarShon Brooks and Gerald Green. The Nets also didn't have to give up their own first round pick in the trade. The trade will not be finalized until July 11.

Johnson, who is still owed $89.3 million over the next three years, was dealt for Anthony Morrow; Jordan Farmar, who will be bought out at Atlanta's expense; Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, a signed-and-traded DeShawn Stevenson and the Rockets 2013 lottery protected first round pick.

As a result of the trade, the Nets are now eligible for the full $5 million mid-level exception (which they reportedly will use to sign Bosnian forward Mirza Teletovic) and the $1.95 million bi-annual exception. They also retain two trade exceptions worth $3.0 million and $1.30 million, acquired in the Gerald Wallace trade; $3.0 million in cash considerations; Kris Humphries Bird Rights; all their own first rounders from 2013 through 2018 and the draft rights to two top European players, Bojan Bogdanovic and Toko Shenghelia.

Been hearing this happens only with D.Will in tow, so...

And yeah, the contract sucks, but this team isn't about cap space anymore. We traded 3 expiring bench players and a lotto protected pick for a top 5 SG. I can live with that. Not it wasn't my dream but...
BK potentially has the best back court in the game.

D.Williams / Kidd (LLE) / Taylor
J.Johnson / Brooks
G.Wallace / (Bogdanovic)
(Humphries) / Teletovic (MLE)
Lopez

Hopefully G.Green is able to be retained.. not sure if possible though.

You would have to hope so otherwise the Nets' front office has gone off the deep end.

X/Johnson/Wallace/X/Lopez is not a team to build around...

Woj + Broussard + Bondy reporting this deal is contingent upon D.Will staying.
Aldridge saying otherwise.

Is Deron/JJ/Crash the new Kidd/VC/Jefferson?

They never had a Lopez... Krstic was a jump shooting center.. Lopez is not, despite Avery forcing him to one season. He is one of the best post players in the NBA. This has been apparent to Nets fan, and once they get some national exposure it will be to others.

Oh I meant that as a good thing...I always loved watching those three play together.

Deron/Johnson/Wallace/Humphries(?)/Lopez is a pretty good core to build around...an expensive one to be sure, but a good one. Now they just need depth.

Me too and very true... depth is key.
Billy better be scouring the D-League and Europe.
We do have some stashed overseas.

But for year 1 in BK... not bad. Depth will come in time.

I'm just so excited to have a playoff team again.... in theory.

Love this deal for both teams. Just a whole lot of win. Nets get much much better, and were figuring to spend their cap now, and probably don't care about lux tax later.

Atlanta gets off JJ without any pain.

Adding the poll and putting it on the list.

Adding JJ would allow them to match up decently with the Heat. I think that is all that matters in the East.

Team looks great at the 1-2-3. The frontcourt could be a bit rough, and obviously depth could be an issue.

Now everyone is saying it's not contingent upon D.Will, but according to Broussard (the only reporter D.Will follows I've heard, and seemingly a close connection who he speaks with) he was in favor of the deal and looking forward to playing with JJ.

If Deron leaves after JJ and Wallace are locked in long term, it ends worse then Isiah Thomas with pills.

Ouch!
But I can't say "too soon".

That's a blast from the past.

Atlanta won this trade without question. Anytime you can shed 80+ million without giving up a superstar is amazing.
