I'm told New Orleans Hornets will acquire Ryan Anderson via sign-and-trade deal with Orlando. Deal is on verge of completion today
Details:

NBA.com is reporting that Anderson will sign a four-year deal worth between $34-36 million.

Should be interesting to see how much they're paying for him.

I'd say he should be worth at least what Ilyasova is getting (if Ilyasova was worth it).

The deal is for 4/36.

Magic did well here. Anderson is another guy. A specialist. Good for them not spending $9M on him. Ayon is a pretty nice pickup as well.
No idea what the Hornets are doing. An Anderson-Davis fontcourt doesn't make too much sense to me.

$9M/yr for Anderson is a good deal. He's a high quality starter.
I'd question the fit in NO though. Anderson is a PF, I don't see him playing effectively at SF or C. Isn't Davis supposed to be a PF (at least initially, gradually moving to C as he gets older/stronger/slower)? Do then intend on Davis starting at C?
Seems like Orlando is preparing to trade Howard and rebuild, letting their 2nd best player go.

I can't really fault a team like NO picking up a talented player for a good price, but I can't see how Ryno and Unibrow are going to coexist since they're both PFs.

Wow. Not really sure what Orlando is doing, if they really couldn't have done better then Ayon if they matched and shopped him (with Andersen having 1 year of veto rights). 9m also seems a fair price.
Alright, adding this to the deals list, etc.

I think they're preparing for the post-Dwight era. They've got enough big money vets already, and Anderson's value probably would take a big hit without Dwight to cover for him.

But Ryan Andersen is 3 years younger then Ayon?
Even taking a post Dwight hit, it just seems odd unless they need the cap space soon(ish). And didn't they just resign Jameer? I'm just not sure Ryan Andersen isn't what a rebuilding team needs (even at 9m), at least more then Ayon.

Did Orlando get a TPE? If so, then it looks even better for them if Ayon is half way decent.

Yes. I would have to double check this, but with Ryan Andersen looking likely to be a BYC I believe the TPE would thus be at the BYC salary level and not 9m. So think a 4.5m TPE (ignoring Ayon).
Ideally, what Orlando would actually do is take Ayon in to there previous 4.25TPE, leaving them with a 2.75 TPE from that that expires in December and the full slightly bigger and longer lasting 4.5(?)TPE.

This is an awesome pick up for New Orleans.
It's also an obvious "we're trading Dwight anyway so we dont need to pay for guys who compliment him" move.

I think it's kind of dumb from Orlando's viewpoint unless they're just planning on tanking for the next few years. Anderson was a very nice trade chip and if they were willing to move him, they could have set at least one of their bad contracts along with him. It's almost like they gave him away and he's probably their next best player outside of Dwight. Appears as though it was a salary dump.

ITT; people that dont understand How sign and trades work
Magic obviously didnt want to pay ryno that type of coin so they let him go Ayon is better than nothing

This.
Again, you gotta look at the big picture here. You're never going to get 100 cents on the dollar in a sign&trade.
The question you have to ask yourself is, is Ryan Anderson a guy worth paying $9M annually for? Can you win a championship with him occupying $9M of your team salary?
If you're not really sure, then most of the time it's better to let the player walk.
The Magic somehow managed to also get Ayon back, who's on a very cap friendly contract and
at the very least is a nice 4th big.

Ayon is better then nothing. But is nothing (or Ayon) better then Ryan Anderson at 9m a year? Imo no. To put it in terms of value, if Orlando matched and decided to trade Anderson next offseason I would fully expect they could do better then a TPE and Ayon.
Obviously it depends upon what you think of Anderson, but since Orlando could have matched they could have kept the full 100 cents instead of getting change. And since they are below the lux tax but within the MLE of the cap, it wouldn't have cost them any free agent money this offseason at all. So I just don't see the reason to take below market value for an asset.
If New Orleans takes a couple of 2nds for Eric Gordon instead of matching I will say the same thing. Even if you didn't see him on your team with that contract, I think you could have matched and got better value later. (I suppose there is injury concern but with Anderson I don't see it being nearly enough to overtake that basic idea).

why would a rebuilding team pay Ryno $9mil/yr a year, when they just drafted a better version in Nicholson who actually has something Ryno doesnt, a post game for a PF and some defense. Ryno was a 3 pt specialist who could rebound fairly well playing PF and did his best work only when Dwight was there. And you believe Ryan could garner more attractive offers, yet even his home team of Sacramento who could use him besides Cousins didnt offer him a contract. I liked Ryan's attitude, but $9mil/yr is just too much to pay for what he brings to the table. This would have also added long term salary to the team when they are going to have a fair amount of cap space next summer.

But it's not nothing and Ayon. It's cap space and Ayon. Now, the Magic won't be able to use that cap space yet, but it will be valuable down the road.
I do get your point about matching the offer and trading Anderson down the road like the Nuggets more or less did with Nene.
It's not a strategy I'm opposed to, but it's a strategy that comes with risk. There isn't a great market for PFs as is and if Anderson's numbers suddenly were to go down (with Howard getting traded) you run the risk of being stuck with him.
I do not think the Gordon comparison is fair. Granted, Gordon also comes with risk of his own (being injury prone), but he's a far superior player to Anderson and unless he becomes Brandon Roy 2.0 there will always be a market for him out there.
